Retired Brain Trust - Priceless!

Lately there have been folks I've had the pleasure of meeting and they're thinking of retiring or have already retired. Being in real estate I never really gave a thought to retiring - why would I?  Maybe I'm missing something here! These retired or semi-retired folks seem to be having a blast working on new projects, new businesses and enjoying life to the max. One of my clients retired a few years back and I never know what part of the world she's in at any given time. She says she wouldn't change anything about being retired. I think she's on to something!!

My husband and I were talking about this subject the other night. One of his brilliant co-workers is retiring and he knows what a brain trust this guy has - priceless. When I think about my husband retiring I know how much he will be missed by his colleagues. He's the go to guy for just about anything they need to know or learn.

Retired folks are a Huge Brain Trust to our professions and communities. HUGE.There are many here in the rain that continue on being part of the community and some do not. And that's all good.  I wonder what retired or semi-retired agents have 'learned' about being retired or semi-retired, after a few years of actually retiring. Seems like a good idea to pick their brain trusts and view another side of life.....

How about you? Have you thought about retiring or are retired?  Please tell us all about it!  Inquiring agents want to know!!

Although I'm retired, I love sharing my knowledge and learning from other real estate industry professionals. - Wenatchee, WA

Hi Anna,
You know my story.  I didn't really plan to retire so much as take a year off after my husband passed away. I was 59. I discovered there are a lot of other things to do with the rest of my life than work in the traditional sense.  That said, I'm one of those who enjoys being active in the Rain to share my tidbits of experience and how it might apply in the ever-changing real estate industry (and life).  Each to their own but, at this point in my life, I can't imagine not having the flexibility to discover new possibilities.

Frank Lloyd Wright never retired.  Bob Newhart doesn't plan to either.  I definitely won't because my work is an integral part of my life!!  Thanks for the article and things to keep in mind...

I have younger relatives who just 'retired' in an obscure place in NW North Carolina.  Totally isolated.  He was an extremely busy people person and on his feet constantly.  She was bopping around every day doing her own thing.

There is almost nothing to do out there except stare at the mountain view!!

Thanks, Anna!!

Hi Jeff Dowler, CRS hope you're having a good time in AZ. Sorry I missed you this time.  Yes agreed on the retirement issue. Some never do (why unless one has too for some reason), others get involved in new passions and creations and some just don't figure it out.  Thankfully you and I will never be in the last group!!!

Hey John Henry haha just thinking of Bob Newhart's humor makes me laugh Such an interesting guy!  I don't understand why some folks give up on their creative passions, like FLW or you or me.  Can't imagine doing that.  As for your previously very busy friends that are now in a tiny little quiet hamlet with not much happening.....I'd last for a long weekend!

What can we do for you today?

Anna Banana Kruchten - Phoenix Homes Sales retirement is something a ways off for me. Do I ever plan on retiring yes I think so, will real estate be something that I quit doing probably not. Why would one stop I mean it seems that after some folks retire this is what they want to do sell real estate.

Grandchildren seem to be something that would make me want to rethink how may hours work is put in each week. Hmmm right.

Very cool thoughts heer.  My first thought is becoming a volunteer with the Greater Phoenix Score and donating my time and services to new agents.  Being a mentor at a nominal fee might be second best.

Gary will definitely be missed  He's a bright crayon in that box!
