Apple Hill is Open For Business

Real Estate Agent with GreatWest Realty DRE# 00827565

With temps forcast a tad cooler beginning tomorrow, my thoughts are occupied with visions of one of my favorite autumn places.

As one drives east along highway 50, this time of year, there is a special place cradled in the arms of the Sierra Foothills which comes alive this time of year.  In Fall when fruit comes into harvest, and the cider is pressed, Apple Hill provides delight for all.

Originally, Apple Hill was a collection of approximately 16 ranches or orchards.  Today it boasts more than 50 ranches including Christmas tree growers, wineries, a micro-brewery, Spa, vineyards, and pumpkin patches.

Apple Hill is located in El Dorado County - approximately 4 miles east of Placerville.  There is easy access from highway 50.

This link will provide you with a schedule of old-fashioned fun packed activities:

Plan a picnic on the beautiful land that spreads her colorful leaves this time of year.

Kathy Streib - Yes, I make a lot of apple pies.  One of my favorite things to buy at Apple Hill however, is their fresh pressed Apple Cider.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel - I plan to make a trip up to Apple Hill on Friday.  I generally make a few trips there each autumn.

What beautiful photos, Myrl. I'm not an apple eater, but I still love wandering around places like this and taking in the scents and the sounds of the fall season.

Good morning Myrl. These pictures send this post home. I am not able to have fruit (I'm allergic) but would love this place anyway.

HI Myrl Jeffcoat,

This sounds like so much fun. We had an area in the foothills of SoCal called Yucaipa. Oak Glen had many places you could get apple cider and my favorite hot apple pie with ice cream!  The kids loved the petting zoo! It was the only way we could experience fall!

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat, your Apple Hill sounds like a delightful place and I would love to have something, someplace like it near me...I am a little tired of seeing 'oranges.'  -  Florida

Myrl Jeffcoat - Apple Hill sounds like a fine establishment! I haven't found one in TX but I did have a favorite place in IL called Wauconda Orchards where I could pick my own apples. Places like yours are a treasure! There is no greater fruit to keep people healthy. All the labor that goes into keeping places like the Apple Hill going is enormous. I hope they are supported by the community for generations+ to come!

Oh my! I remember you writing about Apple Hill in the past and I think you raised the bar with this one, Myrl! Your photos are stunning and really do make your reader just want to 'be there!'

Speaking of that - one thing that I love the most about apple orchards is the smell - it's not a cider smell but, it's a scent only found in an apple orchard, if you know what I mean. For some reason, it reminds me of wonderful childhood memories!

We drove through Apple Hill this spring when all the blossoms were out - what a beautiful sight that was.  How wonderful to visit now with the harvest in full swing.

Myrl Jeffcoat, brings me back to my Godparent's farm and their beautiful 1850's, red-brick Georgian home...a type of Civil War model.  Well, deep down in the large root cellar bins, they stored fruits and vegetables on the hard, packed, ground floors.  You could always smell the apples from the large apple orchard whenever you went to the cellar.
