Tag Cloud Cloudy

By
Home Inspector with H.I.S. Home Inspections (Summit, Stark Counties)

Does anyone know exactly what the "tag cloud" is and how it is best supposed to be used? It's really still kind of a mystery to me what it is supposed to do, exactly? Is it better to have more tags, or less? How do you choose your tags, and what should they be? I know whatever it is, I'm probably not using it effectively, and anyone willing to throw out some advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Kevin, I think it's probably most helpful for the search engines to find you when consumers enter key words.  It should also be helpful to you in helping you define under which terms you want to be found.

Kevin - I have read some really good posts on Tags and Tag Clouds here on AR. Try searching for these terms and I bet you will find some very instructional blogs.

Tags are keywords that you designate and show up in a categorical list A-Z.

A Tag Cloud is a weighted list of the same keywords but with a visual design.
The more keywords you have tagged - your "cloud" will look more cloudier.

The picture is from Wikipedia for an example.

To promote yourself, you should have your name as one of the tags for the post, and also include the terms Akron Ohio home inspector will help people from that area find your posts. Currently you can see you tag cloud to the right of this post and comments. You have seven of them. One idea would be to crete posts around a specific theme to help build an authority in that field of the cloud. For example, you have a tag for home maintenance; the tag could be changed into a longtail keyword (a keyphrase) like "home maintenance for the Akron homeowner", then you should have a few posts use the same tag. As Michael said above, find a way to include this phrase in your post.

Kevin - Glad to see that so many came to the rescue.  As mentioned, tags in the tag cloud refer to the tags you include on the post on the Tag Line.  They are VERY effective for search engines.  They also can help one to "search" your posts based on a specific tag.  Was that as clear as mud?  :)

I would love to be your RealtorĀ® in Akron Ohio!

I think you are doing really well here on AR. Keep up the good work! Your tags are like keywords on your website. It helps your google juice when you put in your tags.

Kevin - You need to do all of the above. Then Google yourself and see if any of your blogs come up. I'm also still experimenting.

Hi Carl,

When I set up my blog post, I use the HTML side and just type in <font color="blue"> and <font size="2"> and the magic happens.

Kevin: Thanks for the info. I wondered how to do that. I just copied what you gave me and now I'll have to write a blog and try that. I wonder why more people don't use that, it really looks nice.

Thanks for sharing. Gotta run, my inspection starts at 10:30.

And if you need to print a post... be sure to close the tag cloud and the archives too, or you will end up wasting a lot of paper.  Better yet, just copy and paste the parts you want to print.
