Mikhail Dolivo-Dobrovolsky was born in Gatchina, Russia back in 1861. He studied at the Technische Hochschule Darmstadt in Germany (yes, I spelled those correctly). Anyway, after graduation he worked for the Allgemeine Elektricltats-Gesellschaft in Berlin.
In 1911, he received an honorary doctorate from TH Darmstadt. He died in Heidelberg, Germany in 1918, he was 57.
What you may not know about Mikhail is that in 1891 he created the first three-phase hydroelectric power plant. During his lifetime, he obtained over 60 patents. He also developed the first three-phase electrical generator and the first three-phase electrical motor.
