Today the Topsfield Fair officially opens. The air is crisp we've got our walkin' shoes on and are ready to partake of the many Fair offerings. This year two of the musical performers are "Tommy James and the Shondells" AND "The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band" "Credence Clearwater Revisited will also be on the stage on 12 October.
Other fun stuff besides the carnival and the various food booths are;
Monster Trucks, Demolition Derby, Figure 8 Auto Racing, New England Rodeo, Pig races, the barns full of animals and much much more.
This year's biggest pumpkin weighed in at 2294.5 pounds!!! It's a new record! The hardest part of growing these pumpkins is making sure they do not split during transportation.
So, for the Fair, I've set my scales back 10 pounds and have prepared for our favorite Fair foods. The most cost-effective food booth is the one sponsored by the Topsfield American Legion Post 255. Everything in their booth is the same price $2.50. If you like corn on the cob on a stick slathered in butter that's the place. NOTE: If you are a veteran the pie & ice cream is a gift.
A good time will be had by all and we'll probably come home with something from the business expo.
The Topsfield Fair is the country's oldest agricultural fair and one of the many sites and attractions on the North Shore of Massachusetts.
