The Georgia Craft Brewery Tour - Piedmont Brewery and Kitchen
So....I had a great DAY planned for attending the Georgia National Fair in Perry, GA. It's about a 2.5 hour drive South of Atlanta. I had never been to the Fair and had heard so much about it. Well, after 3 hours....we were done. That's only because I'm not a crazy carnival ride kinda person...and the fact that we went on a Monday when there was no livestock judging/competitions going on....there wasn't much to do once we walk through EVERY exhibit building. I had planned to stay for the Oak Ridge Boys concert (loved them when I was in high school) but there was nothing to do between 3pm and 7:30 pm when the concert would start.
So we thought, let's leave the fairgrounds (since there is no alcohol served) go to a local pub or such, refresh and come back to the fair later. Nope. Downtown Perry had not a restaurant in site. We just decided to hop on I-75 and head back to the ATL.
As we approached Macon, I remembered...."HEY...there are a couple breweries here I want to discover as part of my Georgia Craft Brewery Tour. A quick ask of Siri where they were, and we headed into Downtown Macon to Piedmont Brewery and Kitchen.
The Food
Well, the "kitchen" part of this place left much to be desired based on what we ordered. Maybe since they call it a "smokehouse" I should have known to order something with more meat than vegetables. I ordered the PBK Salad with brisket added. Not that good. And Ray ordered the Sliced Chicken BLT with a side of waffle fries. For him to hardly eat half of it you know it was not so good. We also made the mistake of hitting a place when it was an off time and not busy. Like, there were4 customers in the place when we walked in. I even peeked in the door first before parking as it looked dark.
The Beer
BUT...onto the beer and the place itself. I had hoped to try a "Promised Land", but they were out of that one. A taste of the "Goofy Foot" proved it to be to fruity for a beer and my tastes. So I started off with a "Field of Opportunity" and moved to have two "Satisfied." So, they score highly on the beer.
Not so much the food, and sad...because I'm always passing through Macon, and I'd probably not risk a second stop to try different food. And, I've got two other breweries there to check off the list....so I'll be looking for some food options on my next visit....
The Brewery
So the space is awesome....the brewery is actually in the basement, and accessed by a huge staircase that is front and center when you enter the place. Also on the lower level is a killer game room set up...I can see how this could be a fun place...if it were filled up with some people! The main level has tables as well as a bar, which is where we sat. cool stuff on the walls and a neat atmosphere...again I think if it was jammin' it would have been more fun. And the staff would have probably paid more attention to you if it was busy than they did when it was quiet.
So....while I loved the beer, not sure I'll get a second shot at it anytime soon...unless I find it in a store near me, and I'll know more about what comes out of Piedmont Brewery and Kitchen in Macon, GA.
Another stop on The Georgia Craft Brewery Tour!
