After the First Freeze, Temperatures Rebound. Some Winter Tips

There are always a few ways to keep your home warm efficiently in the winter.  These tips and tricks will always help to keep your home warm.  There are no universal solutions for everyone, but tips can help overall.  In Highlands Ranch property management, we try to inform tenants during this time of year of these simple tips.  Using a blast email marketing campaign, you can easily reach all your tenants and clients to pass on tips.

If you have ever found your downstairs living areas to be much colder than the upstairs, there is a neat trick to try to combat that without overdoing your heat output and making the upper levels a furnace.  If you happen to have ceiling fans on the upper level or the ceilings of your great room, you can reverse the output from pull positions to push positions.  Since all heat rises you can force it back downwards to create a nice circulation of warm air.  This helps spread out the heat, so you are not in two different climate zones when you go between your upstairs and downstairs.

If you have rooms in your home that you don’t use as frequently or have extra vent coverage you can close these vent hoods to strengthen air flow in other areas of the house.  The primary ones everyone usually closes are the second vents in the upstairs bedrooms, due to the heat getting up there well, and the vents in walk in closets.  You typically don’t spend more than a few minutes in a closet, so it is better to push that air to other areas of the home.

Always check on your furnace filter, especially after a long summer of A/C use.  Chances are it is covered in dust and dirt.  You should be replacing them every 3 months at a minimum.  Check and see what size filter and the air flow direction before you remove.  It will save you a headache when you replace it.  Be sure to check and see how long your filter is rated for.  Don’t try to squeeze out an extra time from these.  They are cheap enough that you can replace them frequently.  Your air quality will improve vastly and the chances of your furnace shutting down in times of extreme cold will dissipate.
