There's a neighborhood in NYC that has the most spectacular Christmas light displays, which have made them one of the city's most popular tourist attractions annually over the holidays. Dyker Heights, or "Dyker Lights," as it is called during the holiday season, is a popular residential neighborhood in Brooklyn, about an hour from Manhattan.
Dyker heights has a very Italian culture, neighborhood feel, green space and single family homes. So how do these holiday lights increase property values? When an entire community comes together to create such an extravagant holiday display, it clearly shows that Dyker Heights has a strong pride-of-ownership, community, neighborhood and family vibe, rare to find almost anywhere, but especially in NYC. "Dyker Lights" is one of the many reasons residents choose to move there and pay 30% over the median price of homes in nearby neighborhoods.
The holidays lights have become such a strong tradition that some homes have been known to hire consultants to put up their displays, pay as much as $30,000 to do so and have over 20,000 lights! There are at least a dozen Dyker Heights Tours, costing around $50 each, which consistently sell out, making them one of the most popular things to do in December in NYC.
Kin Tsui has posted a wonderful (though long) YouTube video of the Dyker Heights Christmas Lights, and below is a shorter video of the same:
In 2016, a Trulia report, ranked Dyker Heights as one of the top three neighborhoods in NYC for "living well." Online reviews of the area say it is, "beautiful, very well kept homes some of the biggest and most beautiful homes in Brooklyn Mansions , great Italian food and great pastry's !! Great neighbors where almost everyone knows each other !! Extremely safe !!! you can walk at anytime of day and not worry !! A really great place to raise kids !!"
So what is special about the neighborhood you are showing today? How can you show your clients the strong sense of community and ownership pride in a neighborhood?
