Slawa Duldig was born in Horocko, Poland back in 1901 to Nathan and Antonia. In 1911, the family moved to Vienna, Austria where she attend a convent school. After graduation, she received training at the Viennese School for Women and Girls. She continued her education graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna in 1929.
In 1939, following the annexation of Austria by Germany they moved to Switzerland. In 1940, they were expelled from Switzerland arriving in England where they remained until 1942. They moved again to Melbourne, Australia where they remained for the rest of their lives. She found work at the St. Catherine’s Girls School where she remained for 16 years. She died in 1975.
What you may not know about Slawa is that she was also an inventor. She invented the first collapsible folding umbrella in 1928. I have one in the back of my vehicle; do you carry one in your vehicle?
