The Best Does Cost More.

This is such a good example of cost vs value, by Candice A. Donofrio  I had to re-post it.

Today many people are offering cheap options for home owners to sell their homes, all save the home owner money, thus they are cheap, but do they offer the homeowner value?

Please read the post below and consider before you sell your Main Line or Tredyffrin Easttown home whether you want value or low cost? If you want value contact me immediately!

I saw a post (on another forum) recently, seeking resources for a specific type of professional (a lender).

I posted a pick, based on years of personal experience and numerous successful transactions. I have learned from experience NEVER recommend, period -- and never even SUGGEST anyone I would not defend before a judge.

This time, I had no hesitation. Even in the most challenging situations, this individual and company are consistently efficient, resourceful, responsive and caring toward me, my clients and others involved.

Another response disagreed: "Ehhh . . . that company's fees are too high."

I had to think for a second, because . . . the issue of cost never entered my consciousness.

Not a single client has ever complained to me about being able to save by going elsewhere, nor indicated they would not use this professional again for any reason. Indeed, many of my clients use this professional for multiple transactions, as we have been fortunate enough to enjoy serving our valued clients many times over the years.

In fact, yesterday I heard from a client closed 2 years ago, wanting to send a friend to this pro. Did I have her number handy? The experience resonated, clearly--or they would have taken a path of less resistance.

For my services as a Bullhead City, AZ area commercial real estate broker, I charge fees that vary based on the time, materials, resources, energy and 'grief factor' of the individual 'case'. I've been told that they are higher than others' at times.

On rare occasion, some will balk. And I've walked away from prospectives unwilling to pay what I thought was appropriate.

Because to me, adding value, not decreasing cost  are primary consideration.

Lots of time, money and energy goes into offering the best service, communication, representation and resources to our clients. I figure, I'd rather pay for the best than pay less for less than the best.

The best costs more. It is also more durable.

In this day and age, why would anyone cut corners on the most important investments of our lives?

Have you calculated replacement cost on a do-over?

I think Ron and Alexandra Seigel nailed it with 'We're not rich enough to buy cheap' . . . in the long run, replacing non-durables is more expensive.

Candice A. Donofrio that is a wonderful quote. I was always brought up to buy things that would last, not just what was fashionable, somehow, those things that last often turn into classics.

Nick,

I think it is part of a European standard in buying quality rather than quantity.  I remember a conversation with my father's Italian friend who commented that Americans are keen of having a lot of stuff and that we are a throwaway society, whereas Italians are focused on lasting quality.  A

You hit it on the head Nick. Value has more benefits than going cheap! Cheap can cost more in the long run!

Morning Nick.

I've fired some clients in the past,  walked away from a few.  It just wasn't worth it

Ron and Alexandra Seigel I think that is very true, which is why all my American clients want homes with lots of storage to hold all the stuff, most of which they don't use, but they have it. Very often previewing homes you see closets over full of clothes, many with the tags still on them, never worn.

Sheila Anderson when I see a blog as good as this one I have to share it.

James Dray I have done that with a few clients in the past, anyone who saps me of energy is not worth working with in the long run.

Great reblog, Nick. I've worked with clients who took the cheap way out and got nowhere until they called me. As I've often reminded them "at the end of the day you do get what you pay for."

People who don't understand the difference between cost and value often think they are saving money when they do something that does not offer quality. You may buy a tee-shirt for $5.00 and as long as you understand it won't last more than one season, you are are fine. But, if you think that tee-shirt is going to last many years you don't understand value. Likewise with those who think if they list with a broker who offers immediately to cut their commission because he is not marketing it other than putting it in the MLS, he is not protecting his clients with continuing education that stretches him and helps him perfect his craft, then all they are getting is a cheaper broker, but they are not getting value for the money being spent Nina Hollander.

Hi NIck... I was raised by a mother who always said, buy less, but buy quality. That concept has held for me my entire life both personally and professionally.
