Active Break During Lunch if You're at a Desk All Day

With cold October air rolling in much earlier than usual, it can feel like the only place you want to stay is inside for your lunch break.  You may also default much more to delivery food.  Traditionally, people have an actual hour to eat lunch.  That is a long chunk of the work day to just be eating, so here are some ways to increase productivity during lunch, without just working at your desk.  In Highlands Ranch property management, we often have a lunch hour when there is a moment to take it.  Certain day to day situations dictate that we can’t just drop everything at 12 noon every day.  Here is what we do when we want to keep being productive during that time.

You should really step away from the phones and emails.  Answering a call during lunch could send you on a side quest, and distract from the task at hand.  Depending on what lunch you have prepared or bought, that could mean that your lunch will no longer be in the optimal eating conditions.  Letting a hot sandwich cool off and become a soggy mess does nothing for anyone involved.  Instead enjoy your food, and work on updating your task list or see where your goals for the day have landed.

There are many informational podcasts available for consumption.  Starting a podcast series at lunch will be a way to get your mind off the day, just a little bit, and maybe learn something new.  If you have been doing the same thing each day, you will want to keep your brain fresh as you try to keep learning new things.  Complacency is never good.

You may consider networking during this time.  This is especially easy if you have lunch meetings.  There are others in your building who may be of some service to you.  If your office is quite large, see if you can find someone to have lunch with and network.  There are always new opportunities to unearth if you look in the right place.  People being asked to lunch for the first time may not be able to do it right away, so get something on the calendar and plan.

If you would like assistance with Highlands Ranch property management, we can provide you with a free consultation when you call in today.

Hi Kevin - I try to spend a few minutes during lunch to walk around, get fresh air, and reset for the rest of the day.
