Yes, I've been VERY busy.
Thankfully, due to all the SEO I've done over the years, my website can sustain itself. This is one of many benefits of SEO traffic - it's passive and long lasting. No, you don't need to blog everyday.
My site gets over 500,000 pageviews/day - from the combo of SEO and Pinterest.
And, yes, blogging is more than just writing blog posts. You should be spending some of time on promotion, including social media (I have found Pinterest to be the most effective and efficient) and writing guests post/backlinking. When you do these things, it makes each blog post go much further.
Now saying that I haven't blogged for over 4 months is a bit misleading. I have some VAs (Virtual assistants) who drafted a few articles for me. So I did a total of 2 blog posts in June, one in July and 1 in August. And, none in September.
I haven't even done my typical one blog post per week (which honestly is all you need if you focus on quality over quantity and know how to do SEO).
And, with that, my blog has sustained itself (and even grew in July and August).
I wasn't going to do any more blog posts on my main site until January. I was just going to focus on improving the SEO on my strongest affiliate posts. And, I'm glad I'm focus on that...it's working very well.
But, yesterday I cracked. While going through some of my best articles, I realized I forgot to write a review about Loba 2K Supra Polyurethane.
What is that and why do I care? Well this is new high grade water based polyurethane that doesn't yellow. My installers have been testing it for more than a year, and they love it and so do our customers.
I was supposed to blog about this in the spring, and in typical fashion, I forgot. But it's still a relatively new product, at least here in the US. And, the sooner I write about this the better, especially for ranking purposes.
There isn't a lot of good info out there yet, so I'm hoping my article will rank well and provide good value. I expect that searches for this product grow, especially in 2 to 3 years from now.
I noticed today, 15 hours after publishing, that I'm at the top of page 1 for the specific term and using "review," so that's good progress. But for just the general product name, I'm not on Page 1, so I have my work cut for me.
Hopefully, things will look better in a few months.
I need to get some good pictures from my installer and hoping that will help. I think my pin on pinterest is pretty bad too. I'm hoping I'll get better inspiration and better pictures later in the week.
