Everyone Doesn't Want What You Do

Real Estate Agent with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices - C. Dan Joyner 21498

Have you ever lost a client and didn't know why? Maybe you are assuming too much and not listening enough... As agents, sometimes we think we know what a buyer or seller wants and forget that not everyone wants what we do. Everyone is different, with different wants and needs. Don't forget to ask questions and find out what your client wants. This is the quickest way to have an advantage over other agents! ASK MORE QUESTIONS!

Don't tell someone what they want, ask them what they want. Find out their needs! Dig deeper and find out their fears. Most buyers and sellers will open up when you ask them questions and this creates a bond and makes them want to work with you because as the old saying goes-- "people don't care what you know until they know that you care" ...

So true. I remember one buyer who had this vision, and I tried to tell her how she could save a lot of money if she did it another way. Nope, the husband called me and said I had not been "listening" to her and felt we couldn't work together. Looking back, I don't think I would have done things differently. They were just not a good fit if they can't at least listen to my advice.

Great advice. I always tell clients I don't have to live in it, I don't have to pay for it, and I don't have to keep it up! Zan Monroe the best agent line to buyers and sellers "I am in charge of the process you are in charge of decisions "

Ask questions! best advice I was ever given and totally agree, now if my potential clients would just agree to sit down and talk and not rush out to just see the next shiny house that caught their eye life would be perfect.

It doesn't matter what we want at all. It matters what the buyer or seller wants. We definitely need to listen.

Hello Sheila - to me it's all about making connecctions.  In real estate and in real life.  It's great when there is a match but that doesn't always happen.  Asking and carefully listening can help.  In so many ways.

And we all know that sometimes what they say they want...they don't end up buying at all!  What is sometimes frustrating is if a buyer says....Having 3 full baths is a must...yet they ask to see homes with only two full baths...I feel that is a disservice to a seller, showing a home that you know your client will not buy. However, from the other point of view, I always enjoy looking at the inventory!

We can't underestimate how important it is to listen. We all want to be heard. I remember one transaction where the buyer was really happy I was showing her homes with only large dining rooms since she had made a point of telling me she loved to entertain on the holidays. Love your team photos.

While this is true in many ways, it's also true that the wants and needs of a lender and their client need to be the very same at times, Sheila Newton Team Anderson & Greenville SC.  At times the bottom line of want and need is just reality and fact ... as it pertains to the mortgage process ...

Good post. How many times have I heard the agent say "they should move here" or insert a blank. They don't listen.
