October 2019 Carlsbad Art Wall Mural
The Carlsbad Art Wall (CAW) was founded by Carlsbad artist, Bryan Snyder, in 2015, in cooperation with the owner of the popular Mexican restaurant, Senor Grubby’s in Carlsbad Village. The wall provides an opportunity for the residents and visitors to enjoy beautiful and temporary public art creations by local, regional (often Los Angeles) and international muralists.
The newest Carlsbad Art Wall (CAW) was painted this past weekend, October 19 and 20, by Chimp, a New Zealand artist who is in the US as part of the Street Artist in Residence program in San Clemente CA (check out his Instagram site). I believe this mural was all spray painted, which is pretty impressive!
If you live in the area or have visited Carlsbad, it’s likely you have driven by the wall when heading toward the beach. Even if you don’t know the official #CarlsbadArtWall name you no doubt have noticed the changing murals on the east-facing wall of Senor Grubby’s on Carlsbad Village Drive, west of the train tracks and easily seen as you head toward Carlsbad Boulevard.
And of course there are plenty of other murals around town to enjoy, including this mural by Bryan Snyder.
Carlsbad has a reputation as a growing and changing arts community, with abundant public art (an interactive map). The Carlsbad Art Wall is a marvelous addition to our expanding and ever-changing arts community, with a new installation several times per year!
And since new installations are announced it’s not unusual to see people standing around watching the wall mural emerge before their eyes, with the opportunity to talk with the artist.
Here are some recent Carlsbad Art Wall murals to enjoy:

The #CarlsbadArtWall is a fun and public opportunity for talented artists to showcase their creativity for visitors and residents to enjoy for a few months, and a special addition to our Village by the Sea!
