Those of us who live in Denver, know that Lakewood has plenty to do, and being in such proximity it often becomes a part of town people should keep on their radar. The Pirate Art Center in Lakewood is hosting a Día De Los Muertos neighborhood party for all the surrounding residents starting Saturday, November 2. The Party itself is on November 2nd itself, but the exhibit spans from this Friday to November 11th. This is a Denver tradition now as this party has been honoring the day for three decades now. Pirate is hosting the party and is putting a large emphasis on the family-friendly nature of the event. There will be Day of the Dead inspired art adoring all the walls, and these unique pieces are provided by the students from area schools and handmade altars from residents. There will be a performance of the Aztec ceremonies associated with the celebration by dancers from Denver’s Azteca Arts Colorado. There will be of course, the usual fanfare with pinatas, food drinks and prizes. Día De Los Muertos is the festive time of year to honor deceased relatives, satirize the living, and entice to visit with flower decked altars and offerings of food. This is always a cheerful celebration and not a time for mourning. The party is November 2 from 5-10pm. The admission price is free to get in, and local vendors will accept cash and charge at their booths.
