Fun Facts About the Columbia Residences

I love sharing the history of Washington with my clients.  Many of the buildings in the city have been repurposed over the last few years as Washington begins to appreciate its rich architectural heritage.  The original Columbia Hospital for Women first opened in 1866 as a health care facility for wives and widows of Civil War soldiers. The current building was built in 1918. Columbia became a private non-profit hospital in 1953 after President Eisenhowr signed legislation transferring it to a board of directors.  The faciity closed in 2002 as the result of financial difficulties and then the building was expanded and converted to condos in 2006.  Among the more than 250,000 people born at Columbia Hospital for Women were Duke EllingtonAl Gore, and Katherine Heigl.

Want to know the value of your Columbia Residences Condo?

There are a number of sites on the internet that will give you 'estimates' for what your home will sell for. These sites use public records and usually some kind of algorithm to try to produce a value for your home. These sites also publicly state their 'error rates'. That means they aren't correct, they are simply an estimate based on incomplete data. We would love to do a free comparitive market analysis of your home or condo in the West End and let you know what you could expect to get in today's market if you are considering selling.

Hi Lise - I like how you approach the subject of algorithms as it relates to real estate in this post about the Columbia Residences in Washington. There really is so much more that goes into pricing.  Local knowledge and extensive insight matter.

I appreciate the use of floor plans that you include.  It adds so much to your reports in my opinion.

Morning Lise.

Just curious, with the building being built in 1918, when was it upgraded to a condo unit?
