Fourth Blog Of The 2019 Progression Of Fall Colors In Middletown, CT.  Fall has arrived in Connecticut, which means it is time for my Progression Of Fall Colors series I started eight years ago.  This is a series I hoped to continue for many more years to come, and have been able to do so far. The first two years the pictures were of a farm which is only about a minute walk from my house.  six years ago I decided to change the location for the 2014 Progression Of Fall Color Series to a lake about 5 minutes from my house on RT17.  I tried that location for two years, but the colors were not as good as I expected them to be.  Three years ago I decided to change locations again to a site on Lyman's Orchards in Middlefield, CT.  But once again that site did not produce the colors I had hoped for, so last year I decided to keep it simple and do my Progression of Fall Colors blog of my back yard, and will continue to do so again this year.

The first picture above for this year's Progression Of Fall Colors series was taken three weeks ago, before the colors started to change.  But by the second week there was already a  noticeable change in the color the of trees as you can see in the second picture above to the left.

The next two pictures were taken last week.  Normally I only post one picture per week, but the colors started to change much quicker, so I decide to post two pictures to show how the color of the trees are starting to quickly change.  The picture to the right was taken at the beginning of last week.  The weather was overcast, and on Wednesday we had heavy winds and rain which caused some of the trees furthest away to lose several of their leaves. as you can see in the picture to the right, and the one below and to the left which was taken at the end of the week.

Besides noticing the loss of leaves in the trees furthest away, the tree which is closest is the slowest one to change color, but it is now also is beginning to show different shades of orange and yellow.

This week we saw noticeable changes in colors and loss of leaves almost daily, so I am posting tree pictures to show the rapid change.  The first picture below was taken on Monday, and you can see a big change in color from the picture above.  The second picture was taken on Wednesday, and you can see a noticeable difference in the color of the nearest tree, and the significant loss of leaves in the others.  By the end of the week in the third picture which was taken on Saturday most of the leave were gone on several of the trees, and by the end of next week even the nearest tree will have lost most of its leaves.

We are now at a point I can say this looks to be one of the better recent years for our Fall colors.

As I have done for the last eight years, I will continue to post pictures of this same spot at different points throughout the Fall and show the progression of the Fall colors.

Fall is a beautiful time of the year in New England, and even though last two years were better than the previous years, they still were not what I had hoped for.  I have become spoiled by the beautiful colors we normally see during the Fall, so I am hoping this year the colors are truly outstanding.  My favorite colors are the trees with yellow, orange, and rust color leafs when they blend together.

Anyone planning to come to New England to enjoy our Fall colors at their peak, should plan on coming between the last two weeks in October to the beginning of November.  It is still to early to get a feel for what the colors will be like this year, but I will be trying to show the progression of the trees as they turn colors throughout the Fall.

Fall Has Arrived In Middletown, Connecticut and I hope you follow my series of the change in Fall colors throughout my 2019 Progression Of Fall Colors In Middletown, CT.

I can see the changes again. Thanks for these, George.

One of our gorgeous golden trees is now nearly leaf-less after heavy rain and winds. Darn it.  D

Good afternoon George - really very good progression this year.  I wonder how all the heavy rain we had today affected it.

Hi George - believe it or not, we notice the seasonal shifts in Southern California as well.  Far fewer people wearing those Summer colors in their shorts and flip flops as they transition to the more appropriate Harvest shades.  Can't wait to see how Santa adapts this year...

Hi Grant,
Thanks for sharing. Fall is my favorite time of year because of the lovely colors and mild temperatures.  I missed much of our lovely colors this year because I was away for the last  2 1/2 weeks. Fortunately, I've been able to enjoy Fall vicariously through the pictures of others such as yourself.

Hello George, we are getting more of a fall change here than I thought we would especially considering the drought we just experienced, but are fortunately bouncing back from.
