Fairbanks Sunset..

Tonight as I was washing Kathy's car at 1:12AM, because in Fairbanks, Alaska we can do that in sunlight), I found myself mesmerized by a glorious sunset. I didn't quite capture the best moments but I did manage to snap these photo's at the lake.

One of the joys of life in Alaska is that our summers are second to none. If you're new to Alaska or considering a move to the Golden Heart City, expect these sights often. Enjoy!

You make jealoous. I truly enjoy the photos.

Back when I lived in the Arctic, there was no digital, it was all very difficult, and I do not have such prized images.

I remember one night in late July, we were going on a all terrain military type vehicle, no roads, it was a very long trip and it was very exhaustive. I remember we were crossing the river. The vehicle finally managed to get to the ohter shore, everyone was tired, it was already way ove midnight. THe days already were getting shorter, and it was night, but with the streaks of light.

I remember walking out and looking at the glimmering water under the dramatic skies with dark and very low hanging clouds, contrasting the light skies. I did not have the camera with me (nor would I still be able to make a photo without a tripod and long exposure. I still see it vividly.

BTW, did you notice that sometimes about early summer the clouds are so low, you feel as if they are touching the light poles?

Melina - Come on up!  The pictures don't do this place justice.

Jason - Yep... I waited a bit too long to get the really good colors, but these came out pretty well.  If not for the clouds we would have 18 hours of sunlight.

Lori - Nope, no Photoshop... These are God's colors.

Frank - It depends... I've shown vacant homes as late as 2:30... tho that's most definitely the exception.

Gary - Isn't it?  Thanks!

Debe - The 24 hour sunshine does throw you for a loop at times...  Just remember... all work and no play makes for a rich, but dull Queen. :)

Don - Well, have a seat my friend... the colors will start coming out around 12:30.

Sharon - Thank you!  The winters are cold!

Marchel - You don't.  At the height of the summer the sun shines 24 hours a day... We can't tell whether we're coming or going.

Audrey - Thanks!  It's pretty spectacular.

Fran - With all the bugs floating around in AR I missed putting up my favorite!

Julianna - What a compliment... Thanks!

Jon - I know exactly what you're talking about.  We see it quite often... in the winter the Aurora will sometime hang so low in the sky it's almost as if you could reach up and let it run through your fingers.  Amazing!

Jesse,
Breathtaking!  I can see why you were mesmerized by the beauty.  But sun shining or not, why were you washing a car at 1:30 in the morning?  May I suggest some sleep may be in order?

Debbie - We have lots of room though 89K+ people at one might be a speck much. :)

Long legs - It's great to have 24 hour sunshine in the summer but I can never tell when it's time to go to bed.

Liz - Thanks... it was beautiful.

Kathleen - The very bottom is my favorite but they are all beautiful... if I do say so myself. :)

Paddy - Glad I could brighten your morning.

Linda - Pretty special isn't it?

Mel - Let's hop so... I had to get the bugs off where I drove it to Delta the other day.

Cynthia - See above... I borrowed the bosses car to go to Delta and the front end was COVERED in bugs.

Jer - I know.. I thought about that but adding a big background image slows the loading of the page down.  I'll wait until the bugs are gone to do it.

Patty & Scott - Thanks!  That cruise through the inside passage is pretty darn special.

Gorgeous!
Even though we are at the southern edge of the US (I'm in Payson, AZ) we have several rental Owners who do or have lived in Alaska, a tenant jusy moved from here to there. I'm amazed at how many people come and go from AZ to Alaska and back. Someday I really want to get there.
