Mary Tyler Moore's House

By
Real Estate Agent with Tangletown Realty

bronze statue of Mary Tyler MooreSeveral months ago Maureen McCabe asked about the statue pictured at left.  It's the permanent reminder to Minneapolis residents that Mary Tyler Moore filmed her show right here in Minneapolis.  That was back in the 1970's when Minneapolis was considered to be the Siberia of the States.  The statue graces the corner of 7th and Nicollet in downtown Minneapolis.

Maureen asked at that time about the MTM house and whether it was still standing, etc.  I had no clue.  I wasn't a follower of the MTM show, saw a few installments, but didn't pay much attention at the time.

Lo and behold, the news reported early this week that the MTM house had been broken into and vandalized.  The vandal, a 24 year old man, was found sleeping off his drunkenness in the house.  The house was vacant because it is currently for sale.  Anyone with a paltry 3.62 million dollars can acquire the 8 bedroom, 9 bath newly remodeled home for their own.  You can check out the listing here

Hi Bonnie,,,,interesting post. But what do you think of the price? Is that normal for the area for that type of home? Thanks for the insight.

So tell me, Minneapolis isn't the Siberia of the States anymore?  I was under the impression it was... ;)

No, HRH the blogginggoddess herself chose to reside on Mt. Bloggious right here in Minnesota, thereby eliminating us from being in Siberia!  Everyone knows living in Siberia would demean a blogginggoddess' reputation, so by royal decree, the Siberia moniker is forever banned from Minnesota speech!

When I was in college I remember wanting to move to Minneapolis... my sister in grad school lived there and if it was good enough for MTM it was good enough for me.  My room mate's older brothers told me all girls my age had an MTM complex and MN was not all that and a bag of chips... of course this was before that phrase was coined on TV so he should have trademarked that phrase .... and sold it to whomever used it on TV a couple of decades laster...

Thanks for the info Bonnie.. I want to say my idol MTM had an apartment up on the third floor.  Her apartment inside did not match exactly what they lead you to believe was her apartment from the outside.  I think they indicated at the opening or the end by showing the house with the lights on.  I think it was the turret... or was that where Rhoda lived before she spun off and moved back to NYC?

Lloyd, I would say that price is normal for that size home in THAT neighborhood . . . one of our elite areas to live.  It's walking distance to one of the chain of lakes on the Minneapolis side of the river and is VERY upscale.

Maureen, I rarely watched MTM so have no idea what the house looked like then.  In fact, I didn't know the statue was here until you reminded me of it!  I'm not a very good follower of TV shows.  Can't remember the actors' names any longer than I can remember the punch line of a joke.
