Wordless Wednesday...Spooky Fruit

The other day when we were at our local market, Larry pointed this fruit out to me.

buddhas hand

It’s commonly called Buddha’s Hand or around Halloween, Goblin’s Fingers as they were in our market.

This fruit is a form of citron and has many different uses. It’s fragrant so you can even leave it out on your counter for a fresh scent.

I’ve not tried one but from what I understand it’s mostly rind and pulp and no juice. It can, however, be candied, used as a zest or used to flavor sugar or salt.

Or if you’re in need of a last-minute Halloween decoration, I’d pick up a few of these!

Kathy,

Now that's a fruit I've never heard of. Can't say I'd eat it but it looks pretty cool.

Sheila Anderson I do love fruit but would have to candy it or use it to flavor sugar.

Candice A. Donofrio I found them at our local large chain store so I'm sure you can find them. I may buy a few since I'm having the family over tomorrow.

Though it looks like a lemon gone wild, the Buddha's hand is actually a distinct fruit in the citron family. It has a sweet, lemon blossom aroma and no juice or pulp. The mild-tasting pith is not bitter, so the fruit can be zested or used whole.

Interesting fruit - I hadn't ever heard of, or seen, Buddha's hand. I bet that would taste great as a zest in certain recipes in place of lemon. Yum.

Such fun fruit! I first saw these at a wonderful farmers market up in the Oakland area about 5 years ago. Never tried it, though, but it sure is cool looking.
