We moved to Homer in 1989. We hadn’t been here for over a month when Halloween Happened! We were living on the corner of Main and Bayview and we thought we were ready. Big Pumpkin Head filled with lots of candy and a couple of back up sacks. The weather was cold, the snow was thick on the ground so we wondered how many people might really bring theirs kids out and knock on our door.
We heard the first knock, children giggling and “Trick or Treat” it all started from there. It was unbelievable how many children dressed up as ghosts, pumpkins, pirates, princesses and more knocked on our door! They just kept coming. Jim went to the store to get more candy. Then he went to the store to get more candy again. Then he came back and said there was no more candy. We had some quarters rolled up in Ten dollar rolls and started giving them quarters.
We ran out of money! It was intense!
We had no idea we were living in the Halloween Triangle…. the Streets where everyone came to trick or treat from as Anchor Point and Diamond Ridge and East End Road Maybe even from across the bay! That tradition is still going strong although they now plan the routes so the traffic is one way and block off the streets from 5-8pm. Below is the map showing the coordination of traffic for the safety of all! Be careful out there Stay on Course and have a Happy Halloween!!
