Trick or Treat in Homer Alaska Follow the Right Route!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Bay Realty,Inc Homer Alaska

We moved to Homer in 1989. We hadn’t been here for over a month when Halloween Happened! We were living on the corner of Main and Bayview and we thought we were ready. Big Pumpkin Head filled with lots of candy and a couple of back up sacks. The weather was cold, the snow was thick on the ground so we wondered how many people might really bring theirs kids out and knock on our door.

We heard the first knock, children giggling and “Trick or Treat” it all started from there. It was unbelievable how many children dressed up as ghosts, pumpkins, pirates, princesses and more knocked on our door! They just kept coming. Jim went to the store to get more candy. Then he went to the store to get more candy again. Then he came back and said there was no more candy. We had some quarters rolled up in Ten dollar rolls and started giving them quarters.

We ran out of money! It was intense!

We had no idea we were living in the Halloween Triangle…. the Streets where everyone came to trick or treat from as Anchor Point and Diamond Ridge and East End Road Maybe even from across the bay! That tradition is still going strong although they now plan the routes so the traffic is one way and block off the streets from 5-8pm. Below is the map showing the coordination of traffic for the safety of all! Be careful out there Stay on Course and have a Happy Halloween!!

Good morning Debra. No little goblins knocking at the door here in downtown Chicago. While in Florida, our community received them by the bus load and we sat at the end of the driveway ready for action. Enjoy your day!

Hi Debra - some neighborhoods really get into the "spirit" of Halloween with lots of participation.  I remember as a child non-neighborhood kids arriving by carload to our neighborhood to trick or treat.  It's rather cool to see that tradition continues in Homer Alaska.

The kids (and parents) in Homer are a tough bunch. Not going to let a little cold and snow stop them from enjoying the one night they can get FREE candy.

Hi Debra- I remember when we first moved into our home in Leesburg, VA. I'd been told that we'd have a lot of kids but had no idea I'd end up with over 125 of them!!!  Enjoy your great spot for Halloween!!!!

Wow Debra, what a story, I am sure since that incident you are always prepared for Halloween.... I believe that certain parts of the country need to disclose that to the new owners so they can prepare... clearly it would not be a deal breaker to know you will get hundreds of Ghouls  visiting you on Halloween:))Endre
