705 W Race Searcy AR going down Dale property

This pretty little house that once had a front porch is on its way down.  While driving by I did my usual OMG reaction to seeing this one almost gone.  And then I started remembering that its neighboring house was already gone!  So, Searcy Sleuths, what was the neighboring house?  Ok.....here's the picture.  The White County Court House still has the two pictures on line.

703 W Race Searcy AR two houses down

The one on the left is gone.....with no signs of it left.  They are/were both owned by the Dale family and David Dale had told me they were going to remove the rock house for more room for the dress shops that now operate on each side of these two houses.  Several years ago this was the location of Francis Dale's Antiques and I bought lots of antiques from them.  The grandchildren have turned the shops into dress shops now.

I loved the one with the volcanic or coral (I have heard them called both) rock construction.  I have done a blog before about the one located behind it on Arch Street.  Click here to see it.  The two houses were the only ones in town with the lovely curved mortar used on the stones.   Click HERE to see detail of the mortar.  Seems as if someone told me they called this the old Wood Freeman house.  Sleuths, correct me if I am wrong.

Another interesting tidbit......George Riddle's parents once lived in the frame home.  George passed away a few years ago but was a very loved Searcian.

Morning Barbara.

Do you know if they are going to tear down the home, or just build a new porch?

these two houses were built by my grandfather, alma freeman, in the late 30's/early 40's. he also built the two houses behind it. he and my grandmother, mother (theda noble) and aunt (musette arnholt) lived in the rock house and my grandfather's partner (wood-freeman lumber company), jim cone, lived in the white house. when my grandparents died, my mother and father continued to make their home there. i was eight when we sold it and moved to the noble motel. this little rock house was always my true home and i am so sad to see it gone. jerri noble

Jerri Noble, what wonderful information for this blog.  That must be why it is called the Wood Freeman house.  I remember Theda Noble and Musette Arnholt, both very nice people!  Thanks for contributing to this blog.
