God told us that He exists. In Psalm 19 it says in verse 1 that the heavens declare the glory of God.
Look what it says in Romans 1:18-20...18The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
After seeing Paul had done a miracle, the people in Lystra started calling Paul, Hermes and Barnabas, Zeus. After seeing how the people reacted they did this in Acts 14:15-17...15"Men, why are you doing this? We too are only men, human like you. We are bringing you good news, telling you to turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made heaven and earth and sea and everything in them. 16In the past, he let all nations go their own way. 17Yet he has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy."
So, we see that creation declares the Glory of God.
We see the heart of God declared in the Scriptures in Psalm 19 verses 7-11...
7 The law of the LORD is perfect,
reviving the soul.
The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.
8 The precepts of the LORD are right,
giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the LORD are radiant,
giving light to the eyes.
9 The fear of the LORD is pure,
enduring forever.
The ordinances of the LORD are sure
and altogether righteous.
10 They are more precious than gold,
than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,
than honey from the comb.
11 By them is your servant warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.
We need to be warned because in Jeremiah 17:9 it says...
9 The heart is deceitful above all things
and beyond cure.
Who can understand it?
After Solomon tried to figure things out he concluded this in Ecclesiastes 12:13...
13 Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the whole duty of man.
So, we know God through His scriptures and we know what we need to do to please or honor God. When we humble ourselves and live according to His Word, we should be on the right track.
