Fall in Love with Fall in Cary, North Carolina

I work with a lot of people relocating to North Carolina from other areas. There are many reasons they choose the Carolinas. Sometimes it is a job transfer yet many times people look for a job here so they can move here. I always ask why they're moving to the area. Other than a job transfer, the most common reasons people move to the area is lower taxes, great place to raise a family, to be near family, and the weather.

Our mild to moderate temperatures are often cited as the reason people move to North Carolina. We have beautiful seasons. Yes, it gets hot in the summer, but then it cools off. Yes, it gets cold in winter, then it warms up. You get to experience it all. Of course spring and fall are stunning.

Did you know the #1 state people move to when leaving Florida is North Carolina? It's not too hot, It's not too cold, It's just right! As a matter of fact, North Carolina nets more people relocating here than the state they're leaving with the exception of FL. At least for now.

Did you know over 50 million people visit North Carolina each year. Over 5 million visit the mountains in the fall to view the foliage. Here is a map showing where the best locations are for viewing fall foliage in North Carolina

Fall 2019 has been unusually warm hitting high records from decades ago. For those of us who love warm weather, it has been great. For those who don't they're happy fall temperatures have finally arrived. Keep in mind, NC enjoys more sunny days than the US average. Today the high is 59 degrees F and the low is 33 degrees F and it is a beautiful sunny day with Carolina blue skies.

So what are average temperatures in North Carolina? The US Climate Data for North Carolina website is a good resource. You can click on the town and it will give you statistics. Below are the stats for Raleigh - Durham / RDU Airport which includes Cary and the surrounding suburbs.

When you live in North Carolina, each season is special. I love fall! It is a crisp cool jacket day when I get up in the morning and warm and sunny in the afternoon. You can enjoy evenings by the fire pit talking and laughing with family, friends and neighbors. It's sports season here and the weather is awesome. Of course, it is always sports season here. It is a great time to break out those comfort food recipes such as pumpkin bread and chicken soup. It's a perfect time to hike the many trails we enjoy in North Carolina, go to the mountains, and even the beach. There are many festivals around town to get you outside. You'll see many people outdoors enjoying all the amenities North Carolina has to offer.

Hello Carla - whether weather is or isn't at the top of someone's list for important factors in determining location, it's somewhere in that list for determining.  Your weather "report" makes it clear for Cary North Carolina residents and potential residents what they can expect and when.  People like to be informed and knowledgeable.

Carla, beautiful entry for Fall.  We did not really have Fall yet, we had 12" of snow in October, very rare!

Hi Carla...  climate is a very big reason why people move to the Charlotte area, as well. It's certainly one of the reasons we chose the Queen City almost 22 years ago. Fall is finally coming to Charlotte... more red on trees and the temps are down to the low 60's.

Nina Hollander where did you move from. We moved from FL in 1997. Having grown up between TN and FL, I feel NC is the best of both.

Carla - I visited NC for 3 in the weeks the 1990s and fell in love with your State too. I remember Cary very well and thought the people were great, the scenery beautiful, weather perfect and everywhere I went it felt like home. Your post will hit home to many. I wish you much success and happiness.

My son lives in Charlotte and have contemplated many times making the move south, only wish there was reciprocity between our two states for licensing. Fall is a great month and having plenty of hiking opportunities is a big draw for me.

I know what you mean. Having to take that RE license test again is brutal. I had my FL license when I moved here and they didn't have reciprocity either. It is worth it though.

Good morning Carla Freund -  you know I have heard the same thing about people moving from Florida.  Someone coined the word "halfway."  Get out of the extreme cold but not to go to extreme heat.
