Reconnecting is Good for the Soul

UNT Mean Green Homecoming 2019

This past weekend I reconnected with some of my college friends. A year ago I reconnected with my high school class of 1978! Both events were so enjoyable as we all caught up with one another.

As I reflected on these events I am reminded of how important it is in life to take the time to reconnect with those from our past. I believe no one crosses our paths without a reason. Sometimes those reasons are easy to see while others may be a bit more difficult to understand. Each person with whom we have met in life truly does play a role in our journey.

Often, many will choose to fore go getting together with those from our past for many reasons. Sometimes memories can be painful and embarrassing. We all do goofy things in our youth as each of us were learning about who we were.

Today, as adults in our 60's, hopefully any painful memories can be erased and replaced by reconnecting with the people we are today. Each of us has accomplished different things, endured hardships, and have lived varied and interesting lives. Being able to really focus on who we are right now can be so good for the soul.

My years in high school and college are full of wonderful memories. Each very different experiences and each extremely important in shaping me into the person I am today. I am thankful for each person who has crossed my path in some unique way.

Thank you to those of you who were able to come to the University of North Texas Homecoming events. It was great seeing you and reconnecting with you. For those of you unable to attend, we hope to see you next year.

To those with whom I have reconnected, thank you for the role you have played in my life. Whether it was a casual friendship or a closer relationship, your life intersected with mine for a reason. I am thankful for each of you.

Until we meet again next year! Live well, live your moments, and LIV2DAY!

Morning Paula.

Our 52nd high school reunion was last year.  So many are not with us anymore, I doubt that I will make another one

I agree. When I was in New York, I would get together about 4 times a year with about 10 ladies who went to my high school (also 1978!). Those get-togethers were so much fun.

I reconnected with my best friend from junior high and even went to the high school class reunion with all the kids that I would have graduated with if we hadn't moved when I was in 7th grade. It was very cool and since then we've visited each others homes and went to 60th birthday parties a couple times.

How wonderful, and your advise to forget the past, if needed, and reconnect is so important.  Friendship and a support network is a wonderful gift.  D

It can feel awkward reconnecting at first, because of external changes, but the soul is the same.  And yeah, don't worry about the stuff that happened when you were 13!!

I have always been known not to burn bridges, even when someone has really upset me. You never know when you might need that bridge again. So, I like your post, it is always good to reconnect with people, and generally we all remember good times, and when not, we look at them as "those" moments worth forgetting. Glad you got to reconnect with so many friends. And yes live2day! Like that.

It is easy to do this with a few good events throughout the year.  A happy hour, or a backyard bbq in the summer when the weather is nice.
