Wordless Wednesday...River of Fog

When people think of Houston there are two things that people complain about...the terrible traffic and the ever-present humidity. And they would be right.

But we can also have a lot of fog. I love it! It’s like a soft blanket that hides you from the rest of the world.

fog in cypress

If you’re out on a boat, a foggy morning can be interesting and a bit scary. There’s the peaceful quiet that comes after it snows. It’s not like you can’t hear a sound, but that there are no sounds to hear.

And then there’s that rogue wave that slaps at the hull of the boat. Something’s out there but it’s hidden in the fog. You check your radar but there’s no blip on the screen. Fingers crossed that the fog will lift and you’re not staring at a large ship!

It is not the clear-sighted who rule the world. Great achievements are accomplished in a blessed, warm fog. Joseph Conrad

Well, fog is a lot better than smog, right?  I like fog and recall hiking in it one morning, it was neat.

I wouldn't have equated fog with Houston. You're teaching me again, appreciate it. And, we have had some foggy mornings of late, it can be very cozy, but I prefer not to drive in it.

I didn't know you had fog in Houston. I love our fog here - sometimes gorgous, sometimes mysterious, sometimes downright cold -- always changing.

Kathy,

When we live in Northern Cal, Napa, we would see fog quite often thanks to the Napa River, and going into San Francisco too...I have always liked it.  We have fog here also, but mild in comparison to Northern Cal. A

Hi Kathy Streib,

There is something mysterious about fog, especially tuile fog. I remember one instance where some tuile fog came in on the far side of a lake we were heading to came out of nowhere. The cold feeling of the air and the sound of only our own boat engine gave me chills. My husband's flight experience kicked in and we turned the boat 180º and got out of it quickly before we lost our bearings.

Good Morning Kathy, as a Houstonian, I have to agree with you on the terrible traffic and humidity. The fog does give off an eerie feeling especially when you're driving in the early mornings or late at night.

Our temps have been in the mid 70s for several days now.  We are blue skies, and dry as a bone.  I only wish we had some rain, or even fog, to help curtail the wildfires.

Grant Schneider it rarely snows here and when it does, it usually melts before you can have any fun with it.

Wayne Martin I'll bet you get some gorgeous foggy mornings.

Michael Jacobs not as much as San Francisco but we get our share.

you're right Brian England fog is a lot better than smog.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD when I had to drive into Houston for work and it was foggy, I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic so you just inched forward and hoped for the best! LOL

Lottie Kendall when I think of fog here in the States, I do think of San Francisco!!! Our fog lifts pretty quickly.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel I like the change that fog brings. It's a break in the monotony of whatever weather we're having.

Gorgeous photo Kathy! Up in Northere AZ on the eastern side I have driven back to AZ from CO many times over the years. It's dense fog for about an hour....on a two lane road so it's kind of spooky, scary but oddly beautiful at the same time.  I always wondered why in the heck of a high desert is this just this one area that fogs up?  No water around it.....have no idea. Maybe I'll look it up!!

I do love a nice thick fog...as a scenic thing of mystical beauty. Certainly not something I like to drive in though, especially by boat!

Morning Kathy.

In my business decisions I wait for the fog to clear, just like in life when I'm driving in the fog I go slower.
