Remembering My Clients and Friends
Every year, I make it a priority to send a special card out at Thanksgiving to those I think about most. Though I think about my family, clients, and friends all year long, this is the time I like to put pen to paper and express my gratitude away from electronic media.
There have been many years that the Christmas season overwhelms me and Christmas or holiday cards go by the wayside. There are no excuses for not remembering those dearest to you during this season of thanks. So I made myself a commitment that I would send Thanksgiving cards out every year instead of Christmas cards.
Opening Christmas Cards Should Not Be A Chore
During those last two weeks before Christmas, opening the mail becomes a chore. Many of you may not know that my husband worked for UPS for 36 years. So I was basically, a UPS widow during the holiday season. In fact, many of those years, I had to help plan holiday parties for his employees.
A Feeling of Guilt
Oftentimes, I have found myself opening Christmas cards and barely having enough time to scan them before moving on to the next one. Have you ever felt guilty because you don't take the time to appreciate the thought behind the card? I like to think about a special memory as I go through each card. The person who took the time to send me a card deserves that consideration. There were years, I had to wait until after Christmas to go back through these cards.
You may wonder do I take the time now to go through each card? I do, partly because I take the time to send my holiday cards out right now.
I start thinking about this in August, then my husband and I take a few days off and head to Scottsdale for some R and R. During that time, I visit Papyrus in Kierland Commons. I decide on a card design and have 200 of them shipped. I make sure that this is a card of quality. A card that can be displayed and enjoyed the entire season.
In September, I start writing out each card, always adding my own words to make it special for the person I am thinking of.
The envelopes are addressed and they sit until 3 weeks before Thanksgiving. Hopefully, my clients and friends will display this card during the rest of the fall and through the holiday season.
A Special Memory
My other hope is that each time they see it, they think of a special moment we had together.
