As we move into a "season" of reflection on the year, and a look at what we are grateful for. I ponder and realized how much I love where I live. Being in the foothill of the Blue Ridge mountains gives us a wide range of weather, yet remaining fairly mild even when other parts of the country are super hot or cold. We are especially blessed with nearly 300+ days of sunshine per year. We do have all 4 seasons, yet after reading a quote by Kurt Vonnegut, I realize that we actually have 6 seasons.
The idea that there are four-season, he thought, was a lie. "We should have 6. Fall does not move to winter, and winter does not move to spring. Instead, the seasons should be like so: Summer, Fall, Locking, Winter, Unlocking, and Spring." to explain this theory he goes on to say, "The truth about the seasons: Spring is May & June. What could be springier than May & June? Summer is July and August. Really hot, right? Autumn is September and October, See the pumpkins? Smell the burning leaves? Next comes the season called LOCKING. November and December aren't Winter. They're Locking. Next comes winter, January and February. BOY! And they are cold! What comes next? Not Spring. 'UNLOCKING' comes next. What else could cruel March and only slightly less cruel April be? March and April are NOT Spring, they are Unlocking." He goes on further to say that Unlocking is also known as "MUD Season" and Locking as "STICK Season".

You get the idea. So, Let's embrace our 6 seasons. Spend them with warm people who share our lives. As well as help us get through the rough seasons of "Locking/Stick season" and "Mud aka Unlocking season". Maybe the 300+ days of sunshine and out numerous waterfalls, that we have in the foothills will help brighten the days of your year as well.
