Is there still a housing shortage? The short answer ( no pun intended) is yes. One of the biggest issues we have dealt with for several years now is the shortage of new home construction. New home starts have been down since the crash. It has started to improve, but we are still lacking in inventory, especially in the first time buyer price ranges. Housing starts are looking to total around 1.3 million in 2019 ( the 50-year annual average is 1.6 million).
