This is my last post in this year's Season of Gratitude-series. After expressing my appreciation for clients present and past, for my talented network, for small businesses and all who patronize them, I have to dedicate this one to the two most important people in my life, my two sidekicks, my little mouse, and my mini.
I sat for the Real Estate Exams (plural, because I first received my VA license in 2004, and MD later that same year) and became a full-time REALTOR when my children were but a wish and twinkle in my eye.
I embarked on a career in residential Real Estate for a number of reasons: 1. as a then active duty military spouse it was incredibly tough to land a decent job, despite being bilingual and holding a dual Master's degree 2. our first house was a flip, which piqued my curiosity about listing and selling homes to no end, and 3. I wanted a career, and not just a job.
My Mouse and my Mini have grown up in this business. They have read, and reread my blog posts, listing descriptions, Instagram or Facebook captions, and proof-read just one more time. They have sat through settlements, and final walk-throughs. They have worked Open Houses and viewed countless homes. They have had to take a back seat at times, wait for mom to finish typing, talking, photographing, writing, brainstorming, reading, listening, problem solving... they have handed me tissues and hugs when times were tough, and celebrated every single Happy Closing Day.
I am sitting here typing while these two are liking my latest Instagram picture, yelling "well done mom, I really like this one" down the stairs to my office. My heart is full with love and gratitude for them both. They have become two great assistants who have an eye for detail, an appreciation for architecture, a curious mind, and straight-A report cards. Yes, I am not-so-secretly hoping that one or both will join me in a few years. I have raised my very own personal cheerleaders! But more importantly, these two wouldn't hesitate for a moment to cheer for you, too.
The Mouse and the Mini have not only grown up with a self-employed mom, with the ups and downs of the Real Estate seasons, the burst of the biggest housing bubble, but also as military brats. These two are kind and tough. Courageous and resilient. Smart and inquisitive. Patient and understanding. And the loves of my life.
They deserve a blog post solely dedicated to them. They deserve to be called out, and praised on this virtual rooftop. They deserve it all and then some.
Gratitude 4.0 is dedicated to my little Mouse and my Mini.
P.S. I've affectionately called my oldest daughter "mein Mäuschen", which is German meaning little mouse since the day she was born. The ~chen at the end is the diminuitive, turning any noun into its tiny and cute version. Although she's now almost taller, and smarter, and braver, and whole lot of other ~er things than me, she'll always be mein Mäuschen. The Mini is self-explanatory. My youngest is so much like me, it's like looking at a mini version of myself at (a lot of) times! Occasionally, it renders me speechless.
