What I'm thankful today, part 1.

Thanksgiving me is my favorite holiday throughout the year. It's that one time of the year where most of us take a little time to reflect on what we're thankful for. Wouldn't it be a great if we did that daily, weekly, monthly throughout the year? There is much to be thankful for in life.

This Fall, I had my 45th high school reunion. I joked that it was fun, but there were a bunch of old people there. Well, I was one of them, but I don't feel old. Many of our classmates have left this world for another one. Many couldn't make the reunion because of health issues. Ironically, this was the most populated reunion in 45 years. I think my classmates are beginning to feel a sense of their own mortality.

For me, I'm thankful for good health. It's an interesting thing to me. I had a heart attack at 32 and a stroke in my 40s. Yet today, I feel stronger and healthier than I have in decades. I don't always eat the best or exercise enough, but part of being healthy is what goes on in your head. Physical exercise is critical, and a good diet of the right foods is very important, but if your head is not in the game, you have crippled your ability to achieve the ultimate results.

We had a young man at our house this week who feels like he has a terminal disease. He has been to the doctor numerous times to confirm Dr. Google's diagnosis, but each time, he has come back with disappointing results. Those results? You're not sick. You see, he has so convinced himself that he has a debilitating disease that he will ultimately end up sick. His head is in the game, but it's on the wrong side.

I plan to continue in good health and fully engaged in the game of life. I have no plans to accept anything else. I'm sure not going to surrender my good health to my fork, my chair or my mind. This year, I'm thankful for good health, a right mindset and a commitment to end this journey on my terms.

Hello Mike - you are an example of living life to its fullest. On a side note:  I have never yet attended a class reunion of any kind as a former graduate.

Good afternoon Mike Cooper, GRI - it really does affect the body when your mind tells you that you are sick.

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays also.  Even thought it totally wipes me out preparing and cooking for my huge family.  And, good health is always a prime reason to be grateful.

I wish for you to have that continued good health.  I most recently had my 35th reunion and most of us are still around.  We lost our first classmate just before our 10th reunion.  I love Thanksgiving too, for many reasons and agree it would be great if we all had an attitude of gratitude all year.

Mike, Like you Thanksgiving is my favorite Holidays too and I hate it how it is being pushed down on the scale. I intentionally do not comment on any posts that mention other holidays like Christmas before the Thanksgiving weekend is up...Endre
