Gratitude For Those Who Served!

Real Estate Agent with GreatWest Realty DRE# 00827565

Today in honor of our veterans, many folks are enjoying a day off from work! In America today, only an estimated 1% serve in our military. It gives reason to pause and be grateful for those who serve, and have served, our country so we may remain free!

In my own family ancestry there have been those who fought wars throughout this country’s history, dating back to the American Revolution.  I had two great grandfathers, who fought in the Civil War - One for the North and the other for the South.

Two of my brothers fought in the Korean War.  And, my son, Randy served on the Aircraft Carriers U.S.S. Kittyhawk and the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln, during the Gulf War years (1987- 2007).  He is now U.S. Navy Retired.

Today’s observance of Veterans Day coupled with the commemoration is timely.  Debe Maxwell and Margaret Rome have presented the ActiveRain “2019 Thanksgiving Gratitude Challenge.”  I can think of few things we Americans should feel more grateful for, than the sacrifices given by so many for our sake.  Not only in the Great War, but in all wars fought to maintain our way of life.

If you know a veteran, and you speak with them today, be sure to thank them for their service! And, I would also suggest urging Congress to find ways to help struggling veterans once they return home. It is part of the contract this country made to our servicemen.  We need to do a better job of fulfilling it!

Hello Myrl - while the percentages of those who serve may seem small, the number is still impressive.  In more ways.  Gratitude to those who have served or who are currently serving is most appropriate.  Each and every day.

Dorie Dillard CRS GRI ABR - I especially look at the percentage of homeless who are veterans.  This should not be happening.

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat,

I recall reading about the service of your son and brothers, but I did not recall both of your grandfather's history.  That is really amazing.  You have a long history with this country and I can feel your pride.  Few of us know what it feels like to send a son or daughter off to the military. It is a very emotional time to watch your baby head off to service and know you can not protect them anymore.
