1974 – Ronald DeFeo, Jr. murders his entire family in their home located at 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, Long Island. The house that would become infamous in the book, "The Amityville Horror." The book detailed the hauntings experienced by the subsequent owners in the house.
2001 – War on Terror: In the first such act since World War II, US President George W. Bush signs an executive order allowing military tribunals against foreigners suspected of connections to terrorist acts or planned acts on the United States.
