Good Afternoon!  Hope that You and Your Family are having a great day so far!

Recently got to see a beautiful film, Pain and Glory, which focuses on family, reconciliation with One's past,  and creating a future.  I think one of the things that I could relate to in this story, is the way that it shows you how we look back at our past, hoping that we did things 'the right way' and if we could have done anything differently.  It also, in certain ways, gives the viewers a chance to go back (as it shows that Banderas does) and 'complete' certain parts of your life that maybe did not go as planned.

What a great accomplishment this film is!  BRAVO, especially to Director, Pedro Almodo'var and Antonio Banderas.

Banderas plays character, Salvador Mallo and is a film script writer and director.  The film carefully crafts the different layers of each character, namely Banderas's character.  Also, in the cast is Penelope Cruz who plays Jacinta Mallo, Salvador's Mother, and Asier Etxeandia who plays friend and actor, Alberto Crespo, and Leonardo Sbaraglia who plays Federico.  There are scenes from main character Salvador's childhood and then the film comes back to current life.  It's about more than thirty years experience in a film director's life and the CHANGES IN LIFE that come with maturity and experience.

And in the end, there is another twist which is surprising and a great reveal all at once.

The artistic, full scenes are lovely to watch, and reminiscent of my childhood.  There is "enough" in the film for anyone who watches it to relate to.  THIS, IS A TALENT IN ITSELF.  The film has also has laugher, and tender moments which capture every day life when Cruz is washing clothes in the river,  and Banderas is talking with his Mother years later and She tells him that He was not a good child.  What?!

The layers of the film are somewhat simple, yet as they are being revealed it builds on itself.  It's not a simple film in any way, shape or form.  I guess, you could probably watch it that way..but you would be robbing yourself of a brilliant cinematic experience!

If you're looking for a film to help you possibly shed light on your own childhood while revealing perhaps parts of Director, Almodo'var's, then this film is definitely for You.  It is unclear to me if any of this is autobiographical.   I have heard that it is somewhat autobiographical of the Director, Pedro Almodo'var's life.

Antonio Banderas in many ways gives one of the best performances of his career, although it's very different and somewhat "apacible" (gentle)! This is not, "The Mask of Zorro" or "Desperado".

Let me know what you think if you get to see it?  I hope that you enjoy the film!  I think I'm going back to see it again soon!  HAVE SOME POPCORN FOR ME.

Hi Todd - I rarely see a movie more than once.  Your vote of seeing Pain And Glory obviously speaks highly of your affection for this film.  I have heard mention of it and have seen other Aldomovar movies but not this one yet.  Hope you are doing well.

Hi Michael,

Thank You. It's such a great remembrance of his childhood. Reminds me slightly of, "Cinema Paradiso". Stay Well, Michael.

I'm doing well, Thank You!
