Grateful for all those who fought for our freedom

Yesterday was November 11, a day of remembrance.  But we should be grateful, and remember those who served, every day of the year.  I'd like to say "Thank you for your service" to anyone who has participated in the defense of this country, recently or in the past. Some of my family members were servicemen in England, and I admire those old pictures of men in uniform, standing proudly.  I will be eternally grateful.

Every veteran should be photographed and remembered, with their stories told.  There's a very interesting article in the Maui News about Stacy Pearsall, a woman combat photographer who has made it her mission to photograph veterans from every state of this country, and she was recently in Hawaii.  It's inspirational and uplifting to hear how she touches so many lives.  Please check it out, it's a good read.  You'll be glad you did.

Mormon Station, soldier with US flag

Soldier with US flag - Mormon Station, Genoa Nevada

This photo was taken while visiting Nevada in the spring, at the Historic Mormon Station State Monument.  It was a holiday weekend and volunteers were reenacting some of the soldiers and other roles.  I'm not quite sure of the significance of this version of the U.S. flag, but nevertheless it was proudly displayed so we would never forget the battles and bloodshed that have brought us to this time and place.

Remember and honor those who served - be forever grateful!

Georgie, that's a great idea that you shared about every soldier should have their stories shared with photos and rememberance. I think there's no better time to begin than now because our culture is changing so rapidly. We can never lose sight that freedom is not for everyone and when our American Soliders are willing to sacrifice so much for us to have freedom and liberty, they deserve to be honored and remembered in the most memorable way.

Good morning Georgie. This is wonderful. I treasure the pictures of and taken by my Dad in Okinawa during WW II.

I visited my Grandfathers grave in a military cemetery in NY. It truly is amazing to see how many people have worn the uniform. We need to be thankful for that service.

That is definitely something that we should always be grateful for, especially if we have not served ourselves.

Hello Georgie - it's not just a day but an opportunity to say thank you as often as we are able.  I admit I don't do it as often as I should.  Shame on me.

Great Post Georgie,

The Circle of Life is what it is, and we forget that there are many people that sacrifice their lives for our great country the United States of America.

It would be a great idea to leave behind a note for each person, so people will remember what they have done in their lives and for their country they served.
