Grateful for all those who fought for our freedom
Yesterday was November 11, a day of remembrance. But we should be grateful, and remember those who served, every day of the year. I'd like to say "Thank you for your service" to anyone who has participated in the defense of this country, recently or in the past. Some of my family members were servicemen in England, and I admire those old pictures of men in uniform, standing proudly. I will be eternally grateful.
Every veteran should be photographed and remembered, with their stories told. There's a very interesting article in the Maui News about Stacy Pearsall, a woman combat photographer who has made it her mission to photograph veterans from every state of this country, and she was recently in Hawaii. It's inspirational and uplifting to hear how she touches so many lives. Please check it out, it's a good read. You'll be glad you did.
Soldier with US flag - Mormon Station, Genoa Nevada
This photo was taken while visiting Nevada in the spring, at the Historic Mormon Station State Monument. It was a holiday weekend and volunteers were reenacting some of the soldiers and other roles. I'm not quite sure of the significance of this version of the U.S. flag, but nevertheless it was proudly displayed so we would never forget the battles and bloodshed that have brought us to this time and place.
Remember and honor those who served - be forever grateful!
