Evaristo Conrado Engelberg was born in Piracicaba, San Paulo, Empire of Brazil back in 1853 to German immigrants. In 1885, he was constructing a water wheel when he noticed something that changed his life forever. He patented his invention with his partner Earl Siciliano opening up for business in Piracicaba.
In 1890, he was appointed a member of the Parisian Academy of Inventors and awarded a gold medal for his invention. In 1888, he opened up his first manufacturing plant in the United States, that company is still in operation today. His invention with improvements of course is still in demand throughout the world.
Now you may be asking yourself what did Evaristo invent, well he invented the huller. It is a machine used to remove the chaff (the outer husks) of rice and coffee beans. It uses rollers to gently remove the husk without damaging the rice or coffee beans. The Engelberg Huller Company is based in Syracuse, New York.
