Did it Really Happen?

By

Only rarely do I publish a post unaccompanied with a photo or graphic of some sort. That’s especially true if I've been to a delightful restaurant reknown for great food and ambiance. Add in, great company, and the rarity becomes rarer still. But, that's what happened today while I enjoyed lunch at Biba’s Restaurant here in Sacramento, with fellow ActiveRainers, Ron and Alexandra Siegel!

Somehow the engaging conversation between the three of us, and my scrumptious meal of grilled swordfish with tomatoes and capers, in a buttery white wine sauce, allowed remembrance of an existence of time without cellphones. But, it did happen, folks!

So, here’s the question of the day - if you have a lunch with great friends at a special Italian restaurant, and you didn’t take pictures, did it really happen? It all seems like a wonderful dream! And, that isn’t just the fine wine talking, folks!

Hello Myrl - there's no denying that the "no photos" situations do occur and it doesn't mean the experience is any less real.  I am glad you had a wonderful "meet up".

Good morning, Myrl. Of course it happened! I never take pictures of food but I know some wonderful meals out have happened in my life. I don't get the whole idea among "young" people these days that if something is not codified with a photo it's like it never really happened. A sad way to live, if you ask me.

I do not usually take photographs when visiting restaurants. I have not developed that habit.

A picture for you...

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat

It is very rare, that I will pull my phone out when dining with friends or clients. I too remember the days before cell phones.  I might add, good for you!

I think that it is because Ron and Alexandra Seigel didn't want their pictures taken, they are so inundated with the paparazzi that they want to stay out of the spotlight as much as they can, haha.  I am so happy that you had such an enjoyable time with them, I enjoyed my time with them when we sipped wine and visited!

Myrl,

And we did not take pictures with Brian England either.  We love our phones and the functions they have, however we love just being with people, no need to be distracted.  A

Michael Jacobs - No, it was no less real!  I came home after that very satisfying experience and napped for two hours.  I wasn't hungry for the remainder of the day, and only nibbled on a few grapes for dinner.

Nina Hollander - I'm one of those crazy people who takes pictures of food, because I'm a foodie!  And, Biba's is such a special place, that I'm amazed that I got through that meal without snapping a picture, to help promote them.

Roy Kelley - If I were a restauranteur, and I saw you coming, I'd make certain there was a beautiful blossom on your plate.  I'd know then, you'd snap a picture, and promote my cafe!. . .LOL

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® - I found it wasn't as difficult to park my camera as I would have suspected it might be.

Candice A. Donofrio - Both Ron and Alexandra make wonderful company.  There's no question about that!

Sheila Anderson - The needed nap at the end of it all, and the fact I was no longer hungry for the remainder of the day, provides me a clue that it did happen!

Brian England - I suspect you are on to something with the damned papparazi.  They ruin it for us all. . .LOL

Ron and Alexandra Seigel - In all fairness, it was at the end of our meal I "hinted" that perhaps we should take a photo.  But, I easily surrendered to your subtle hint that we should not!

You may have noticed, we rarely document our time together with Ron and Alexandra Seigel in photos. We are enjoying the time and company and a photo is simply not necessary. Like us, you now have the memory tucked away in your heart and head until next time. I knew you'd all enjoy one another.

Myrl,

I recalled that Kathy Streib and Ron and I had a wonderful breakfast near Del Rey, Floriday.  Neither one of us pulled out a camera, and we all enjoyed a wonderful conversation! A

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD somehow taking a photo steals a moment of time of being together, perhaps some cultures have it right that taking a photo of someone takes a piece of them away.  For me, it is the posing, pasting a smile and focusing on saying cheese, all out of present time...

And we had so much fun with Myrl Jeffcoat the whole time together.  A

Well, the photos are not as important as the meeting itself. You probably all had smiles on your faces...and that's what counts!

Hi Myrl,
Yes, that has happened to me many times. I often kick myself for not getting a picture but you know you've had a good time if you don't even think of disrupting the conversation.    So glad you all got to spend time together.

Myrl Jeffcoat, what a great post to hear of your  lunch with Ron and Alexandra Seigel .  Very happy for all of you to meet up and perhaps selfish of me that I would have liked to be there with a photo.  I accept your explanation and can feel  how wonderful that get together was.  Love it!
