BaltiQWERT #17
Gilbert & Sullivan Sing
Baltimore, Maryland
November 16, 2019
The works of W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan (known as “G&S”) have been famous in the English-speaking (and singing) world since the initial collaboration of the two in 1871. Generations of families, professionals, and theater-lovers have performed the G&S comic operas.
A "QWERT" is where G&S fans gather and sing through some or all of the operas, with scores in hand, to piano accompaniment.
There’s no staging and no dialogue, so each opera doesn’t take all that long. It's fun, fun, fun!
Being offered for years in Baltimore — therefore, the function is called a BaltiQWERT! And this Saturday is the 17th BaltiQWERT.
More than fifty singers from over a dozen states are participating this time. Some are brand new to G&S; some have been performing G&S for DECADES; some are amateurs, and others are professionals — but all are looking forward to a wonderfully fulfilling day.
Best of all, anyone who wants to experience this is very welcome to attend and watch — it’s informal; there is no admission fee and plenty of comfortable seating!
