Reclaiming Long Lost Skills-My Road to Real Estate Music Videos

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Coastal Properties DRE# 01977602

We are all a sum of our parts.  Take these seemingly unrelated bits of information and mix together:

  •  I was a drama kid.
  •  In high school and college, my friends and I wrote clever rhymes about each other.
  •  I have an interesting network of friends.
  •  l like music, but can’t sing a note.
  •  I lived in Vienna and Dubai before moving back to the states and becoming a Realtor.

These unique ingredients have bonded together and are working to help me promote my real estate business locally and internationally.

Here’s how it all came about.

When I started in real estate, coincidentally, a friend from Vienna had taken over KW Worldwide, Keller Williams burgeoning International division. So, I joined KW and included international real estate as part of my business plan, working "around the corner and a world away".

I got comfortable making videos, mostly local material. I like videos and see the value of them. And while I could do more, the drama background helps with the stage fright. It's making time for them not fear that keeps me from doing the one a week that I should be doing.

Dance to Open House songAt the end of last year, The Baby Shark song got into my head. I was at an open house and started singing, “Open House do do do do do do”! I sat down, and used those long-ago rhyming skills to pen, The Open House song. Reasoning, that if you can’t “beat” the song, “join” it. I reached out to my network of friends and was introduced to a fellow who could sing and produce my song for a nominal fee. Then some friends and I filmed it and my first music video was born. Non-musical me has actual copyrights for my lyrics!

I went on a Real Estate Trade mission to Belize where I became an affiliate with ECI, a development company, and got to be friends with my KW colleagues there. I want to drum up some referrals for all of them. Unlike, Baby Shark, I really LIKE the song, “I’m a Believer”. I had help and cooperation from both ECI and KW Belize. “I’m a Belizer” was published last night on YouTube. I am mixing drama, rhyming, my network, international real estate and music together.

Random bits of nearly forgotten skills and interests are merging to make real estate extra fun. I’m hoping that the Tourist Association of Belize will leap on board the Belizer idea. I do know that someone nabbed the ImaBelizer.com domain name before I could get to it. I haven’t been able to quantify business from the videos yet. I know I got one client from one of my Long Beach videos a couple of years after it was published. Getting my name out there in a memorable way can’t hurt. At the very least, it has strengthened bonds with my referral partners in Belize.

I hope that you’ll be inspired to explore your own unique interests and special skills find ways of incorporating them into your business or daily life. Maybe you’ve already done so and want to share your “unique” real estate blend. I’m interested to hear about it.

In closing, if you want to see the "I’m a Belizer" video click here:  I'M A BELIZER.

I appreciate all “likes” and “shares”. My YouTube channel is Janet Darrow Realtor and I value all subscribers. I’m not a viral sensation but I find working with video has been rewarding and sensational for me personally. It utilizes some dormant skills and bits of life that I am happy to reclaim.

Next blog, Janet Darrow I'd like to see some of your videos.  You can post, like, what soft ware do you use?  etc etc.  I just use "out of the box" stuff and am not good at it at all, using Microsoft Movie Maker, adding free music and then posting it on YouTube with YouTube's software too.

Hi Bruce:

I did put a link to "I'm a Belizer" which you can click on. Most of my videos can be found on my YouTube Channel Janet Darrow Realtor.  I had a friend film while I directed. I can find out about the camera.

Belizer is interesting because it was filmed with a green screen (my first stab at it). I did the editing. It's a little messy but the golf cart scene, Bari's scuba diving and the dancing scenes were many overlays of film. Trying to get it all figured out was crazy time consuming.  I use Imovie too.

Cheers,

Janet
