Grateful for Active Rain: The Social Media Platform for savvy Realtors
Most of my regular followers and those who read my posts consistently know, that I have been on this platform since 2008. Initially, I started out just reading other blog posts. I was observing, learning and most importantly watching what the platform was all about.
Then I took a leap of faith and started my own blogging. The quality of my posts well, let’s just be polite and say that it questionable at best.
My initial goal, when I joined the platform was to get referrals. Naively I figured, that if I put my name out there, the referrals would start flying in by the droves. Well, that did not initially happen. Instead I started to learn about SEO, then I learned about Long Tail Words and the list goes on and on. Most importantly I learned how to Blog. I also learned about Google Algorithms and that “change” on the Internet is fast and often unexpected, so I need to keep up with the changes and not get complacent.
Next thing I knew, I started getting calls and emails from potential buyers and sellers. Now that was fun. Although no referrals but actual business from the world wide web. I started getting International Buyers and Sellers. The Buyers and Sellers from Asia, the Pacific Rim and Europe started reaching out to me. The best part is they still do!
As in life often things change, the big players got into Real Estate on the Internet and ultimately Active Rain was sold a few times. One thing was sure, I was addicted and at the same time I found my Voice on the platform.
The beneficial byproduct on being on this platform, in addition of having learned how to blog productively, I developed relationships with other great bloggers. Somewhere along the way these relationships blossomed into friendships. Ironically some of the members moved on from the platform, but our relationships and the friendships remained. I have said this before it was an unintended consequence of being on this platform.
Interestingly the referrals continued, including from those who decided to move on. Just as the friendships continued, despite not being on the platform.
Reflecting on eleven years I can safely say, most of my blog post were not all Real Estate Related. Many were about good to great Wines that Diane and I enjoyed. Fantastic Restaurants that I thought were noteworthy to share as if I wanted to be a Restaurant Critic. I have of course, shared recipe’s and my cooking. I have written blog posts about books that I read. Places I visited and most importantly about our ‘Animal Farm’. The trials and tribulations of being a Pet Friendly Realtor in Los Angeles can be fun read for likeminded people, not as much fun for those who are not animal friendly.
Clients started to get to know me before they met me, they knew what my passions were and what my ethics were. So, with that said I am very grateful for this platform and for the friendships, the clients and the learning I received. At the same time, I hope and wish for many more friendships as well as clients in the future.
