Grateful for the agents in my world

Real Estate Broker/Owner with Lane Realty Eatonton, GA Lake Sinclair, Milledgeville, 706-485-9668 GREC# 169695

First of all, I'm ever so grateful for the agents that do and have in the past worked for me.  I've lost some over the 25 years, some retired and moved, some passed away and some remain.  What I can say is no one ever left my company and went to work for someone else locally in real estate and there has never been a dispute between two agents in my office.  I think I without a doubt have the best people in the business locally working in my office.

But I also would like to express my thankfulness for the overall spirit of good behavior in my real estate community.  It's a small town I live in and area where I work and as the president of the MLS I also get to meet most new agents when they are signing up for the system and getting their key.  I would venture to say that I have a personal relationship with 150 of the 300 agents in our local MLS.

When I am out of town or recently when I closed my office for a funeral a broker from another firm always tells me that my folks can call on him if they need to for questions or help. He's going to be out of the country in December and I plan to extend the same courtesy.

A few years ago an agent called me to see if I could fax him a copy of a blank contract because his computer had died as he was ready to type up an offer.  I actually typed it and sent it to him all filled in and ready for his buyers to sign.  You never know when you might need a favor so I'm always willing to lend a hand.

Many years ago I had a buyer and set an appointment and had a personal conflict come up and when I called to reschedule the listing agent said, oh don't do that, I'll show it to him and send him back to you if he wants to make an offer. He showed the house, the next day I wrote an offer and it closed.

I'm thankful I work in a market where we work well together.  I sometimes read that agents are looking for ways to "block" other agents from their Facebook business page because they don't want them to "see what they are doing".  In my local market I am thrilled when others "like" my business page.  Sometimes when they see that new listing they share it with their buyers.  We are all in the same business and the spirit of cooperation and sharing is how we accomplish our goals.

It's my wish that everyone in the world would develop a spirit of "getting along" to accomplish common goals and stop fighting to have it their way. Sometimes I think people don't even know why they are fighting anymore and share more goals in common than they would ever believe and could realize this if they would listen more and talk less.

Hello Tammy - the community aspect of real estate may not be as common everywhere these days but it's nice to know that it still exists and that you have shared its existence.   You are fortunate.  Good for you.

Hi Tammy Lankford,

I believe in the Golden Rule.  Whether it is in real estate or life in general. You are the type of REALTOR®, I like to deal with. My area is small as well and I have a very good feeling about most of our agents and cooperation between us.

Loved your post, Tammy. I've always hated it when I saw agents behave as if other agents were just competition to beat to some finish line. I always think of other agents as colleagues and will always extend a helping hand... I know that will be returned in spades to me.

Tammy, that is what living in a small town is -- getting along with others!   What a sweet post.   I have another broker watch my business when I leave town, and help her when she does.   Have had other agents call me with help on brochures, blogging or even marketing a unique property.  It just pays to help.  What goes around comes around.
