How Calendars Contribute to Your Marketing Success

DID YOU KNOW...

...that 64% of people have a wall calendar in their office, and 32% have one in the common area of their home?

As you know, I am obsessed with finding ways to marketing your business. And it’s the time of year for calendars!

You can easily order calendars branded with your information to give as freebies to clients and prospects. Why does it matter?

Funny you should ask…

Why I Fell in Love With Calendar Marketing

I fell in love with calendar marketing when I realized, out of the blue, that I had one Realtors calendar on my freezer for FOUR YEARS!!

I just had it there and I literally saw this person’s name and information EVERY DAY of my life.

Can you imagine that kind of marketing stickiness?

Now, no, I don’t think most people will be as lazy as me and keep it for four years! However, you are guaranteed to get 365 days of marketing out of it, which is much longer than the life of most marketing pieces.

Calendars Are Helpful And Used Frequently

We all know that marketing that’s helpful in our daily lives is much more likely to be used. A calendar is exactly that. Everyone needs a place to write down appointments, meetings, and more.

Even more importantly, almost everyone uses a calendar at least once a month, and most people will look at it every day.

If you could have a piece of marketing that gets used daily, would you take advantage of it? I certainly hope so!

Boost Your “Touches”

In The Millionaire Real Estate Agent, Gary Keller recommends getting 33 touches a year with real estate prospects.

It seems crazy to figure out how to get that many, but a calendar can get you far more, even in just one marketing piece.

A calendar, alone, won’t be enough to get a call from a prospect. Don’t think you can just drop it off and you’re done. But, a calendar along with other consistent marketing will build your brand and keep you top of mind for that prospect.

A calendar can also generate referrals and are a great holiday giveaway or reason to do a pop by.

Are you ready to get your calendar marketing on? We have a variety of calendars available, and we have a special deal on tear-off calendars for this week only.

Don’t wait – get yours now!

Despite so many people poo-pooing calendars as no longer relevant, I send mine out annually and no one has ever complained. In fact, some call and ask for extras. And for the cost, I figure they don't hurt. And I like knowing that my face is sitting there on many a fridge all around the Charlotte area.

But don't you think everyone sends out calendars? It seems a bit overdone by every vendor. I only use 2 calendars and the rest either get trashed or put in a donated stack for others to possibly pick from. I always have multiple calendars left over so I'm unsure whether this marketing strategy really works for the majority. I love the idea though!

When I was a broker and gave away calendars I was the ONLY one in town who did so. As for other businesses - some years we get more than we need and other years none at all!

I can testify that they do work!  Every year I get at least 4-5 listings and it's because my calendar was on their refrigerator and they said "you are the agent who has consistently sent me this calendar and I figured you would be the one to call to list my house!"  They do work Anne Corbin

the purpose of marketing ourselves is to be "top of mind" when one thinks about real estate.... that small desk calendar with boxes to jot down something on each day is on their desk and they're looking at it all year....there's nothing better, Anne Corbin

Great question - I agree with Diana and Marte that consistency is vital!

I have been sending out calendars to my clients every year for 25 years.  I believe in them totally.  I have also made a practice of sending to the buyers who bought a house I had on the market if I knew they were working with an agent who did not appear to take good care of them during a transaction.  I can honestly say ... that they do work!  Every year I get at least 4-5 listings and it's because my calendar was on their refrigerator and they said "you are the agent who has consistently sent me this calendar and I figured you would be the one to call to list my house!"  They work!

Nadine Larder this is a thought provoking marketing idea.

We have a local mortgage company who drops off at our office each year,  lovely Calendars with photos taken by someone who works there.    I put them on my office wall.    I know the company's name, but, I don't use the company.    They've never done any personal marketing to me, so I don't know them  nor their talents at all.    That's an example of how it doesn't work.

On the other hand, Diana Dahlberg has great success with them!   Who wouldn't love another 4-5 listings a year?!?    Diana, how many do you send?  Do you only send them to clients who've bought? or also clients who have sold and moved away?

I'd love to get   Barbara Todaro 's take on calendars if you have time Barbara!

M.C. Dwyer I send out about 2,000 calendars. They go to every seller and buyer I personally worked with in the past 25 years.  I also send to some of the buyers who bought one of my listings.  On that list is also lenders and other VIPs I work with regularly.  The 4-5 listings come from the buyers of my listings who call saying "whoever they were working with never stayed in touch with them ... and since I did they figured I would be the best person to call -- plus I already knew the house because I had it listed when they bought it."  I cannot tell you how many listings I get on average a year from other people getting the calendar because I am probably at 75% of my business is repeat and referral from past and current clients.  Hope that helps?

M.C., I definitely don't think that calendars alone get the job done. It has to be done in conjunction with other strong marketing tactics - we always preach a "marketing mix" at PrinterBees!

Hi Nadine Larder  calendars are a smart way to keep your name and contact info in front of the recipients.... mine were always a stand up desk calendar with boxes that could be written in,.... I'd order 500 of them....and my builders were always looking for 2 each...one for home and one for their office or truck....

big hit... I think the first year I joined AR, I sent one to those who followed me....

I mail them for at least 20 consecutive years.....  I preferred them to large flat desk top calendars.... that looked disorderly to me, but that's my ocd!!! M.C. Dwyer

Back when I owned a real estate agency, I ordered wall calendars every year - Puppies & Kittens and Norman Rockwell. Clients, past clients, and friends came to my office to get them. It was fun to see big tough loggers come in looking for their puppies and kittens.

A couple of years I also ordered pocket calendars and mailed them. That was good - but expensive. The year I quit, people called asking for them, so if you start it's best not to stop.

I agree that the calendars can't be the ONLY marketing you do.

Marte, I love that! Everyone loves puppies and kittens. I couldn't agree more that it can't be your only marketing. It has to be part of an overall strategy.

I remember many years ago when I was still in my corporate career and the company I was working for built a new office from the ground up. The striking difference was how small the individual workspaces were. The owners said, "we're rapidly becoming a paperless society, so we don't need all of that desk space any longer". Well. that was 20 years ago, and as far as I can tell, we're still using paper...and a LOT of it! And yes, I still keep a small wall calendar next to my desk in my office. Sure, I can just look at the calendar on my computer or phone, but I still like to take a quick glance at an actual calendar, too. That all said, I haven't sent any out in years as they did not seem to work for me. I AM glad to see Diana Dahlberg has had great success with them!

Very good point, Greg Mona! We're not as paperless as we like to pretend. Plus, as many have mentioned, it's all about consistency!

I used to order a lot of calendars, this year I ordered 25 and it's the last year. The younger pp don't use them. I do love the photos and events posted

Mary Hutchison, SRES, ABR I really think it has to be part of a marketing mix. Many folks here have reported strong results, and that a lot of prospects/clients enjoy them. Maybe it just depends on your market!
