Which tree to choose?

It once again is that time of year when you start thinking about the Christmas Tree.     The U.S. Forest Service sells annuals permits are as reasonable as only $10 and most are $20, for those adventurous individuals that want to pick out their very own Christmas Tree.    There are designated areas in which the trees must be cut down.  In past years, they have said there would be a Christmas tree shortage.

You can pick up your permit in the region you are cutting down the tree.   You can either go to a Forest Service office, or go on-line and purchase your permit.   Here are the offices you have to contact -

Here are the Forst Service Offices near to the Denver metro area -

Be prepared when searching for your tree, even though it may be warm in Denver, it will be much colder and a possibility of snow in the mountains.   Bring warm clothes, boots, gloves, an ax or saw (no chainsaws allowed) and strapping to tie the tree to the car.

If your family has never cut down a live tree, the kids probably will never forget this experience!

Happy Christmas Tree shopping!

I have to smile...we did that one year and chose a
"Charlie Brown" no one wanted tree that was mostly bare on one side. we loaded it with ornaments...without realizing thst the weight on one side would cause it to fall over...in the middle of the night with a loud crash...David later anchored it ...it was a tree to remember Joan Cox

This is timely information to share with area residents.

It has been many years since we used a real tree.

Hi Joan... well, I do love the smell, but I hate the mess of a real tree. And I hang so many ornaments on my trees I'm better off with an artificial. But I remember the days when I'd have a fresh tree cut in New Jersey and drive it back to NYC.

Yes, I do love the smell of a fresh Christmas tree!  And I love the prices.  We can't get that here in Elk Grove even if we do the work.

Sally K. & David L. Hanson that does sound like quite the tree, so glad it did not catch fire when it fell.

Roy, I think most families prefer the ease of an artificial tree.

Nina, the needles do make quite the mess, especially closer to Christmas.

Hi Joan Cox - We had a Xmas tree farm where you could cut your own... which we did while the kids were young.

But this reminds me way too much of Chevy Chase and Christmas Vacation!

Hi Joan - there are cetain scents/aromas that bring back fond memories...a real Christmas tree is one of those.  Cutting one's own tree likely enhances the entire experience.

Georgie, I found that odd too, it takes much longer with a hand saw.
