Grateful that my dad is well taken care of at 97!

I am so happy that my old dad is able to live in his own home in Vancouver, and he has good care and good caregivers.  Since I live on Maui, it's not so easy to just pop in and help out.  He used to spend a lot of time with us here on Maui, but now traveling isn't so easy.

The health system in Canada has been great lately when he needed to be hospitalized for a whole month due to problems that are typical for an old man at this stage of his life.  I was up there the whole time and got a good look at the level of care and treatment, and can say I have no complaints.  He was in good hands the whole time, even during surgery.  The best part was... no crippling bill! 

Shout out to Mt. St. Joseph Hospital which is part of St. Paul's Hospital - thank you for taking great care of my dad!

Since he's back in his own home, we've found some wonderful people to look after him and the house.  Vancouver is such a great city that many people come from around the world to live and work there, and especially in the health care field.  With some neighborhood connections, it didn't take long to find a good team of 2 women with professional nursing skills who can keep an eye on him and tend to his needs... including taking him to the barber for a haircut and shave!

You are lucky to still have your father around Georgie Hunter R(S) 58089 . My dad would be about the same age if he lived. My mother died (was murdered) at the age of 65. Neither got to see my children. You are fortunate indeed. Thanks for sharing.

Good morning, Georgie Hunter R(S) 58089 your dad looks wonderful.... so healthy for 97 and independently mobile.... his mental capacity is unbelievable for his age....my mother will be 97 on dec.1.... she has dementia and is in a wheelchair in a nursing home....needs 24 hour care and attention....  but I'm fortunate to have her alive and we visit.... often she knows who I am....

Hi Georgie... how lucky are you to still have your Dad around at the age of 97! He looks wonderful and no doubt that is because of the great care he receives. I'm sure it puts your mind to rest when you're not there.

Your father is a dapper looking dude. Quite handsome, and pretty strong looking too after just being hospitalized.  And I concur, Vancouver BC is a fabulous city. How wonderful that you have a great care-giver support system in place as you two are pretty much opposites in location. ( As you well know. ) I LOVED this post about your dad.

Aloha Georgie - it must be reasssuring knowing your Dad has such good care given the distance.  I must say he is looking well - I wouldn't guess he is 97.  Good for him!
