Gas Prices How is the price of ga$ changing your life$tyle?

With the rise of price at the pump, and with no real end in sight, we are all being forced to rethink the way we live, and it certainly is making an impact on my real estate business, as well.  In reading some of the latest blogs on listing presentations, I see that narrated video tours are becoming a hot tool fordollar bills allowing the public to remain in front of their screen to check out all the best properties, instead of out on the road burning up gas!  And get this -- one of my buyers insisted on putting gas in my car after a half-day of rural property showings!  I also note that the open house gas pumpis on the verge of  extinction, and I have even had Buyers make the statement to me, "Well, until I'm really ready to buy something, there's no need to run around town at 4 bucks a gallon!"  Ah-hah, there may just be something GOOD coming out of these crazy gas prices!

For me, in my business, I find myself telecommuting whenever possible.  If there is not a real need for me to drive to the office (14 miles one way), I find that opting to work from home to save on gas and time is actually sort of refreshing.  And when I do need to head out, I'm finding ways to be more efficient when running errands so as to eliminate as much driving as possible.  I've also noticed waaaaay less RV traffic out and about this season ... guess that's a no brainer at 4 MPH.   If the prices continue to rise, who knows how creative we all might be in making the best of it.

So, how is the price of gas affecting you?

You drive less, plan your trips more carefully and group tasks together so you can accomplish more on a single excursion.  And pray for the price of oil to drop!

I just drive a MINI and keep selling.  One transaction will take care of a year's worth of gas increase costs!

I want to get a vespa and tool around town doing my errands, previewing property, shopping etc.  Can't take the kids in it though and hard to show property in it.  Can go on listing appts with it!  I have noticed that I am paying approx $5,000 extra per year.  That is a lot.  I'm feeling guilty about taking vacation this year, but vacation is soooo important to me!

I hear ya!  Would love to drive a mini, but would my clients love it too?  My dad has a scooter and that seems like a good idea -- but I have to commute 15 miles to my office, including a highway drive -- so I have to think twice about that too!  This brings up the idea of a home office versus a physical office location.  Something to think about huh?

I already work from home...  The scanner, copier, fax machine is priceless.  I think about personal trips and try to be more conscious of errands.

Gas prices are affecting everyone!
