Thanksgiving's less than a week away. After you fill up on turkey and all the trimmings, how do you plan on spending the rest of your time? Fill your weekend with holiday cheer by shopping, decorating a gingerbread house, taking a photo with Santa and the Mrs., and watching the official Westfield tree lighting ceremony. That should get you in the Christmas spirit.
Westfield Tree Lighting & More Holiday Fun
Gingerbread House Decorating Contest
First off, let's talk gingerbread. It seems that everybody loved last year's inaugural contest. So, organizers brought it back for this year. Savory Spice hosts 2019's Gingerbread House Decorating Contest. If you saw last year's entries, then you know that this contest accepts more than just gingerbread houses. Last year's winners included recreations of the Watcher House, the Train Station, St Nick Church, and local businesses.
If you, your family, your company or an organization you belong to wish to submit an entry into the contest, register online before November 28, 2019. Drop off your submissions between November 28th and December 5th for public display. Find out who the winners are on New Year's Day.
Santa Snapshots
Santa and Mrs. Claus fly in from the North Pole to help Westfield locals kick-off the Christmas festivities. They visit Lord + Taylor on the Friday (1 pm to 6 pm), Saturday (1 pm to 6 pm), and Sunday (12 pm to 4 pm) following Thanksgiving. For your $5 donation to the Westfield Food Pantry, you receive a professional 5" x 7" photo with Santa. Purchase more prints online from Paul Mecca Photography.
Support Local Businesses
Black Friday hits downtown Westfield on November 29th. Alleviate at least one stressful part of the day with free parking at meters and in the public garages all day long. But, if you really want to support our local businesses and avoid the maddening crowds, come to downtown Westfield on the 30th for Small Business Saturday. Carolers stroll the streets. Our businesses offer holiday deals. And parking's free all day as well.
Westfield Tree Lighting
Finally, on Sunday, December 1st, enjoy an afternoon of winter wonder at the North Ave Train Station. Festivities begin at 4 pm with hot cider, cookie decorating, live music, and more holiday fun. Then, at 5:30 pm, Santa and Mrs. Claus join Mayor Brindle with the official lighting of the Christmas tree.
Not sure how to keep your guests entertained after Thanksgiving? Don't worry. There will be plenty of things to do to fill up the rest of your holiday weekend in Westfield.
