The Junior League of Austin sponsors the annual "Christmas Affair" every year the Thursday before Thanksgiving. 2019 marked the 44th annual event and the theme "I'll be home for Christmas"definitely evoked feelings and memories of families, togetherness, excitement and traditions. The Junior League views the Christmas Affair as a market with a mission!
Austin has undergone many changes since I moved here in 1981. The only constant for Autin is change but the qualities our city cherishes of compassion, generosity and creativity never change. Every dollar raised during the five-day event provides much-needed funding for the Junior Leagues signature programs and non-profit partnerships.
Thursday morning offers a breakfast and first peak at the many booths that offer a variety of boutique items. I've been going for the past 15 years with my daughter and some special friends. It's become a tradition to kick off the holiday season and puts me in in the mood for the holiday. I look forward to it every year and know my Geno would be happy I went. He would always tease me and say "I never get invited to go!"
This year Christmas is fast approaching as Thanksgiving is falling later in November. There were some firsts this year that added to the whole experience for the the thousands who attended. Providing additional food options for the patrons kept them shopping longer and enjoying the scenic views of Austin from the upper terrace outside the Gingerbread Loft highlighting Texas businesses and products.
I must admit we shopped until we dropped and then relaxed on the terrace with nibbles, bites and bubbly overlooking the most amazing Austin skyline!
Cheers 2019.... Another memorable Christmas Affair!!
