If you live in southeastern Wisconsin...or just across the border in Northern Illinois...you may well have heard of the Hygeia Spring which is located on Milwaukee Avenue in Big Bend, Wisconsin. The water is enhanced with a rare combination of natural minerals including potassium, iron, calcium and zinc.
This natural wonder has been metered at a flow of over a thousand gallons per minute. Indians in the area have passed down fables about the healthy qualities of the water. People come from great distances to fill jugs ....a tradition that has gone on for many decades. The water from this spring began as glacial ice during the time of Caesar.
In 1893, water fron Hygeia Spring was pumped to the World's Fair in Chicago...an engineering feat for that place in time. The water flows from two spigots high enough to fill a five gallon jug.
Spring water flows out of (2)two separate spigots…high enough to fill a 5 gallon glass jug underneath.
The spring water, which flows from a source 2200 feet below the earth’s surface near Big Bend, WI, is said to be among the purest in the world.
The name Hygeia came from Greek Mythology...the Goddess of Health and is represented by a woman in a long flowing robe with a cup and a serpent drinking from it.
