Although consumer spending may be high during this coming holiday season, the traffic in malls is expected to be at a trickle due to more people making their purchases online.
As is typically the case during the colder months, real estate is expected to be at a trickle, but should increase back to normal when the spring thaw arrives.
Note the use of the word trickle in these sentences. You probably already know the definition of the word trickle, but even if you did not, you could probably determine its meaning by the context of its use in the sentences.
Trickle means little by little.
Now take the term “Trickle-Down Economics” and think of what it is supposed to mean.
Those who believe in this economic theory suggest that it will result in a healthier economy. In this theory, taxes are reduced on corporations and on the wealthiest individuals, with the idea that they will invest that money into the growth of the economy, hence, making the economy flourish and, hence, making everyone in the economy benefit.
However, over the last 4 to 5 decades that this theory has been in practice, it is undeniable that the percentage of people who are considered to be poor has increased, the wealth of the middle class has not increased nearly as much as the growth of wealth in the economy, and the percentage of wealth to the rich, which is a very small percentage of the overall population, has increased exponentially.
In other words, as the phrase Trickle-Down Economics should have suggested, it is a “Trickle” of wealth that is coming down to the middle class.
This is just a trickling thought.
