Federico Faggin was born in Vicenza, Italy back in 1941. He graduated for the I.T.I.S. in Vicenza when he was 19. He graduated from the University of Padua, Italy with a degree in physics, summa cum laude. After graduation, he taught the electronics laboratory course for the 3rd, year physics student form 1965-1966.
In 1968, he joined Fairchild Semiconductor in Palo Alto where he was the project leader of the MOS silicon-gate technology unit. He left in 1974 where he founded Zilog where he was the R&D department manager. In 1986, he co-founded Synaptics where he was the CEO until 1999 when he became Chairman until 2009.
What you may not know about Federico is that he designed the first commercial microprocessor the Intel 4004. The also created the first MOS (metal-oxide-semiconductor) semiconductor in 1968. He currently lives in Silicon Valley a naturalized US citizen since 1968.
He is a co-inventor of ten US patents assigned to Synaptics. He currently is chairman emeritus of Synaptics.
